Technical What kit to rebuild original oil pump in 1951 truck 8ba

    Rebuilding engine and now attention is on the oil original pump. It seems to turn freely and looks good, but hasn’t run in over 20 years. What rebuild kit is recommended or how to test if working. IMG_0065.JPG

    Generally, these oil pumps just don't wear out (they are, obviously, one of the best lubricated components in the engine). Unless there is obvious damage, you can check the clearance on the end plate (I think it is .006 to .010"; don't quote me on this as I can check my shop manual tomorrow), and if it is within specs, you should be able to use it as is (after a good cleaning). I would recommend that you DO NOT just replace it with a new aftermarket pump on general principles. There is a thread on here somewhere about testing these if it becomes necessary, which is not usually the case.

    Tubman ia right. My last rebuild included a new oil pump.....lower pressure than before rebuild.....
