1963-64 OUR Impala WOULD HAVE LOOKED LIKE TO OTHERS IN So Cal. (w/o the purple top)

Hello,

IN 1963-64, we were finished with drag racing. There was one 250cc desert racer motorcycle sitting in the backyard garage that was giving my brother some recovery time work. So, the Impala was still fast, still good looking and needed a push to make it very cool. A fast modified, custom car was the goal. It was already fast, so some work was done by Henry’s Machine Works in Long Beach and we were off and running. They modified the axles and drums to fit a Buick bolt pattern as I was able to buy a set of Buick Skylark Wire Wheels and a pristine spare. I had saved up enough and wanted to make the Impala step up a notch.

So, if you look at the internet photo of the candy purple top/black Impala, imagine the top all black. My new look Impala was now cruising all over So Cal from Santa Monica North, to Downey inland, up into the local mountain range to Laguna Beach to the South. The Impala was now a fast mild custom with the additional Buick Skylark Wire Wheels, a C&O Stick Hydro, and a Racer Brown Cam and Lifter Kit.

The Impala remained that way until one late summer night, when it got stolen and hours later, we recovered it, missing my 4 Buick Skylark Wire Wheels. The pristine spare was left untouched. (sold the spare to another custom car guy and made money from the original purchase of 5 ) The final act for the 58 black Impala was new, black, Buick steel wheels and new tires until it sold in late 1964.
