I pulled the mini starter off my 1957 392 hemi and ordered one for the same engine , what came is identical other than the gear is a 9 tooth as to the one I removed is a 10 tooth , add said it was for my engine , my question is will it work or do I send it back and try find a 10 tooth one ?
Is yours 146t or 172t flywheel, different diameters could account for starter? 10 for 146 and 9 for 172?
I do not know for sure , bought it back in November , first time I’ve been under it , I took a 10 off of it , has a power glide on it
As a start I'd identify the adaptor kit manufacturer and measure flexplate diameter. I just checked a few sites online and both starters are listed and available however I'd wait for the experts to chime in with actual real world knowledge and experience.
Count the teeth on the flex plate. Match the starter gear to that. I am using a wilcap adapter with a TH400 trans. As I recall, the same adapter plate and flex plate works with PG, TH350, and TH400. If yours is a wilcap, their web site will tell you which starter. It will generally be a late Chrysler, Example 92 Dodge Dakota. Powermaster # 9513 I believe fits.
