Pat, I don’t believe that is the Mystery. I think they are both the same purple car that ran at Dover. I can’t remember the owners name but I read that it had a 283 and a 4 speed. Look how the rear fenders are molded into the body in both pictures.

El you are right Larry and Wanda Blanchett of Maine have Al DeAngeles Mystery Willys and restored it somewhere around 2014. The Willys with the molded in fenders was discussed somewhere but I can't find it.

From Wanda on the Dover site:
Well I haven’t been on here for awhile. Been busy with a lot of things. This is a picture that we took of the Mystery Willys a couple of weeks ago. We’re still got the same tires and wheels on her as when she raced. Still not sure what our plans are for it but we think it’s looking good. Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks Pat, yes I remember when the purple Willys was discussed but I can’t find it either. Here are some more pictures of the Mystery and it is looking great in the picture that Wanda shared. I will add that one as my last picture so that we can see it better.

Thanks El. Eddie Sanzo was quite a character, the first rendition as you can see was unchopped. I saw the truck when he got it from a lumber camp in Maine, it still had pine needles in the bed. The second rendition is when Bob Petrocelli who worked at the Pacers chopped the top. I was at NY National Speedway standing next to his wife when he went into a giant wheel stand and rolled it over on it's side. That was the end of that truck.

Pat I enjoyed the story of his truck but it didn’t have a good ending. He definitely had a lot of fun in it though

Here is another from NY National. I posted an article on here about how this car is on the street in Staten Island NY and that it survived hurricane Sandy. But I can't find anything on this damn computer.

Pat, I enjoyed the story about the Pickup. It sounds like Eddie was a fearless driver too.

El I have some pictures that have never been published or shown. I took them myself and didn't want someone else copying them and then selling them but at this stage of my life the hell with that concern. I believe in Karma so whatever happens after I post them so be it. Stay tuned I have to scan them. But first I have to find them.

    Got this from my friend Pete "Baby Cakes" Stager;
Ron Norman's two 'restored' classic Willys!
The 'Bee Line' A/GS of Al Zerberini
The 'Grove Boys A/G of the Grove brothers.
Both were 'National Class Winners', back in the
    day.Fully restored, 'period' correct!!!!
Both, went to a 'private' collector who will take
pride in being, the 'new' caretaker.Ron was
fussy, who to sell them to; sounds like he found
    the 'right' guy!
Ron also owns Jack Merkel's '39' Willys and '33' Willys and they are NOT FOR SALE!!!
'Babied', and stored properly,as Ron would say!

Great picture El right on the line, the car started off I think black or a very dark color and had ww slicks. I never saw this picture, I dig the Imperial tow car behind it. At times we towed the MG with a 57 Nomad bot Willie and Dave had one Willies had a 6 cyl. in it.

I never saw pictures of it when it was a dark color or didn’t recognize it as the same car but it does look good. A 57 Nomad would be a cool tow vehicle and I have seen a few in vintage pictures. I believe that Johnny Loper had one that he towed his Anglia Little Hoss with.

Pat, I enjoyed that story and it’s nice to know the history behind the photo. It’s crazy that they gave him a ticket for that. Yes I agree, he probably had a quota to meet. I bet that he has some good stories about that Coupe.

Got these early pics of my car yesterday. Does anyone have anymore of this car? It was from Illinois and ran at Cordova.

upload_2020-8-12_4-3-20.png All Gas Coupe and Sedan drag race 1964
    Hello,

In 1964, I was asked by our good friend, Atts Ono, to come to Lions Dragstrip to film the debut of his immaculate, red, home built, 1940 Willys Coupe in the B/Gas class. He was making his debut at the first and only All Gas Coupe and Sedan Class Drag Race in the USA. He could have picked a normal day at Lions for the debut, but he chose to go against the top Gas Coupes and Sedans in the B/Gas class at this meet. So much for gently breaking in and then competing with a new build.

While walking around to see the competition, we stumbled across another C&O Stick Hydro sponsored Willys Coupe sitting in the far reaches of the pits at Lions Dragstrip. The Braskett and Corwin root beer colored Willys Coupe. With the C&O Stick Hydro and some work done by Jocko’s, it was all So Cal prepared for the tough B/Gas competition.
