I had some time today to finally get the ball rolling on the A. Started with a F-1 crossmember & pedals but wanted the option of pulling the trans without pulling the engine so I had a 46 X member that I cut the center section out of & will combine the 2. Chopped out the center if the F=1, squared everything & welded plates to the F-1 that will bolt to the 46 section, hooked up the clutch linkage, had to move the linkage ear on the clutch pedal to the right side of the pedal to clear the frame, also pie sliced the F-1 tops as it was taller than the A frame, I will add diagnal supports to the rear, drill holes in the plates mating the F-1 to the 46 & clean up the welds next chance I get & heres a pic of the quickie paint my 9 year old daughter & I did for the 4th of July parade, free advertising
I love it! Excellent tech. How did you go about "pie-cutting" the F1 crossmember because it was higher than the Model A frame?
Thanks, I pie cut above the master cyl, I am mounting the engine about 3"'s higher than normal, figure with a full fendered car it will fill the bay a bit more, give me more oil pan clearance also will run pipes over the rear of the fenders so it gives me an easier route. How much fan to radiator clearance are you guys running, I have about 3/4" & will be using the stock style strut on the 46 that goes between the bellhousing & trans crossmsmber to keep the engine from moving foreward.
nice job. i see you have th ears of the transmission bolted directly to your crossmember. are you gonna use the rubber biscuits between them?
The part that the trans is bolted to is the mount, it has rubber between that & the actual crossmember, speedway sells them new for $28, ones on its way, I think its a 42-48 mount??
