Ah yes, the right tires to, very cool truck! I’ve been looking for one of these campers for years for my 56.
Very C[emoji41][emoji41]L Camper Shell !!! Considering Gareth's '55 Chevy is so nice, I would consider polishing the camper shell: ... or perhaps paint it: Then again ... if his '55 was mine, I'd find a vintage utility camper shell (with tool storage) so I could use it to tow my straight-axle Deuce Vicky to & from the dragstrip [emoji57] [emoji1] :
Wish I could find a truck like that!!! Even the longer wheelbase/box/ton version would be fine with me. Should have kept my 58, ex-Navy, long box that had a 55, 4 barrel, 265 in it. 3-speed on the column; it was still gray in color. Seems every car/truck I've ever had, I'd like to have back. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Purrfect! A few days ago I was daydreaming about building a campertop for my ´51 3600 once it is on the road, but I doubt I could come up with something that nice... maybe I should just try...
Have kept an eye out for one to fit my 64 F100 longbed to no avail. came close , but no cigar. This is one is just right!
I wished I would have never sold this 55 IHC pick up truck. It came with this very cool home built dog house with shake shingles.
that truck is nigh unto perfect. and it has had my gears turning since i first saw it on ig. something like that for the next summer long alaska road trip? hmmm...
We always called that style a truck "topper". A camper was taller, had a bed and other amenities. Here's a cool camper the Steve McQueen owned. https://www.autoblog.com/photos/steve-mcqueens-camper/#slide-2229278
This guy came up for sale apparently, it raises up and down with a jack system. has a bed stove and sink area.
Lots of those galvanized looking units were sitting in back yards, alleys, or leaning up against some garage. Then, as soon as you realized you needed one, they were all gone.
What a wonderful truck and camper shell. As trends go, this deal is red hot right now. I looked at a vintage art deco topper here on the classifieds a couple years ago. I realized I did not have the funds for the project and withdrew into reality, but it didn't put our the fire. I was able to ascore a brand new tailgate that was taken off from a 1966 c-10 when new and a camper shell installed. I have little bit of the story anyway. Thanx for featuring this swell rig. kudo's
i have one of those alaskan pop up's like anthony shows above, but some one mounted the top section on to plywood walls to make a fish house. not mint, but not junk, could be had for cheap. who needs a project?
Thanks for the kind words, Ryan. It’s been a fun project and I’m enjoying driving it. Over the weekend I swapped in an overdrive trans (NP440 4 speed manual) which has made it even more usable. Looking forward to some road trips. I’m on the hunt for a single axle trailer to tow the 34 pickup. Should look right at home behind the 55. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
