Installed the new Howard's cam and hydraulic lifters. Broke them in per cam manufacturer instructions. Have about 500 miles on it. After sitting overnight, all the lifters rattle about 1 or 2 seconds at startup. Then everything quiets down. Is it just the stiffer valve springs collapsing the hydraulic lifters? It is 351 cleveland.stock rockers, pushrods, and valves.
Actually I used a Napa filter. The engine is in my 1955 tbird, and the steering gearbox is so close to the engine, I have to use a filter for a Renault of some kind. It's only 2" or so thick!. I think it has the check valve in it, not sure. Thanks for the info, that may be the problem.
The Renault filter likely is the issue. Probably doesn't have a residual pressure valve. There is a really small Ford filter that may work. I think Crown Vic police package with a 351w but I'm not sure. I had to get the Fram dig in, though. I see way too many similar issues when someone uses them.
Cleveland’s are known for noisy valve train. I had one that I put new lifters, rockers and pushrods in and it still clatters. Did some research and apparently some of them have oil pressure issues to the Lifters on the back p***enger cylinders.
