Can someone educate me please??? I'm planning on running a rear model A transverse spring on a 23T I'm currently ac***ulating parts for. I've seen the springs mounted one of 3 ways,,the most common the spring behind setup, but also the spring in front, and on top. What are the benefits of each? And pros and cons?? Thanks in advance B
I ran a spring in front of the rear axle on my old T modified. T spring, '39 axle. For me. it lowered the car and I didn't need to Z the ch***is.
It's all about side view profile. What do you want it to look like? As for Frame to Axle clearance 2" will do 3" is better to get a fair ride. The less kick in the frame the more space you have in the bed however pending what your doing back there you may want a little kick to get the frame rails up to the bottom of the bed. To decide all this you need to do some layout and math. Here's a prime example of Good Math. I love Norm's T and who don't. He wanted to show the rear Axle and all the Chrome spring. Notice the top of the spring is flush to the bottom of the Bed. To do that he kicked the frame up inside the Box and built a spacer to go inside the Spring socket. If you want to hide all that then you would make a bigger kick so things are hidden inside the bed loosing storage space, maybe I should say Gas Tank and Battery space.
I also ran spring in front on the front axle too because everyone told me it was wrong but that's what I had...
what advantages? I really want something different looking tbh. attached is a pic of my rear k. its a little taller than most, so I think a spring over with a medium transverse spring would work and not make the rear sky high. I'm not running a bed btw, so not concerned too much with that.
I would go spring behind or above with that kickup. Otherwise the banjo may look real funny hanging all the way out in space.
I'm running a Ford 9 as well, not the banjo. I failed to mention that above. I really dig the friction shocks as well on that other setup
Done and posted a long time ago, used double wishbones, front bone centers Rear crossmember was hacked up in a previous life so had to build it from scratch, 46 shocks all around
Looks to me like you are pretty much committed to either spring on top or in front of the axle since there's really no place for the axle tubes in front of the spring anymore. Quite a bit of wheelbase variation depending on which way you go. Quick work from 10:55 last night to 3:51 this afternoon! Lynn
Maybe you could find more info a****st these 8 pages. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tranverse-springs-tech-info.1112840/
Is this actually a photo of your Frame? If so what made you decide on what appears to be a 10" kick tucked right up tight to the body? How tall of a rear tire do you plan to run?
yea, I was planning to add some bracing there and a few others. I'm running a high torque motor and wanna eliminate as much twisting as I can.
