Bought the 55 tank for my 54 and the straps just wont reach. looking for ideas to make it work. longer studs or hangers that will secure it safely is what im wanting to go with since i dont have a welder (seen where another guy welded his old and new straps together for the length). my new straps stop at the bottom edge of the tank right under the bolts. so basically i have a gas tanks height of space between my straps and the studs
Maybe this would have been a better idea ? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-Ford-...e:Ford&hash=item5213a96165:g:0E8AAOSwa2deFNoB
Just to make certain, you are using bolts that look like these, correct? They are close to 7" long. https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_...except-station-wagon-and-sedan-delivery.html#
jeff i bought the stainless version of that exact setup from the same guy haha and dos that link just went to the frontpage of a website but whats in there now is the original bolts and it looks like cotterpins run through the tips of them
Try this link. I'm not sure how the tanks were hung in 54 but in 55/56 they used these j style bolts. The hook p***es through a hole and the bolt hangs down. The strap is then held in place with the nut. https://www.ebay.com/itm/J-Bolts-Ha...e:Ford&hash=item521aa306f2:g:dWMAAOSw9MtcpSVR
That other guy was probably me. Just installed a '55 tank in my '54. Use the new straps that hook from the front, cut your old straps at the rear, find a local welding shop and have them welded together. Super simple, takes 2 minutes to weld together so probably very cheap, bolt 'em up and you're done!
Bet you could use these too if you are frugal. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...4742187?q=battery+hold+down+-+universal&pos=2 Probably about $5 at WalMart or Autozone or O'Reillys.
