Can I apply bed liner over old tar based undercoat? Most of the underfloor will get Rust mort, Master Series Rust sealer, and probably epoxy primer. Was thinking about using the older style tar based undercoating or bedliner. So... which to use, will exhaust heat cause problems with either, and can I spray bedliner on the remainder of the older undercoating that is in great shape.

I don't think I would spray bedliner over old undercoating, clean it off first. Bedliner would be better than the tar based undercoating on a clean surface.

The bed liner shrinks as it cures. It will plus the undercoating off. Even it doesn’t pull the undercoating off it will no bond to the petroleum based material

Ok, that's what I wanted to know. Thanks. I guess I'll only put the bedliner over the new floor pans and not over any of the old stuff. Seriously, the old stuff has done an excellent job and it still is adhering strong as ever. Why mess with success and if as it still is sticking so well it would be a real ****** to get off.

Its pretty awful to get off. Diesel, thinner, power wash, wire brush, wire wheel, sandblast. Nothing works well. Whatever method is a mess.

I like UPOL bedliners, raptor is the brand name. Also check out UPOL gravitex, same goop less texture. Both can be topcoated with paint if you want. Ive used those 2 products 8 times and been happy with the results.

The raptor I shot in my daily driver truck, sits outside year round, been on 12 years, very little fade, zero chalkiness. The only places its peeled is where I drag steel tubing (engine hoist) over it, no coating is gonna stand up to that.
