I have a 1956 Montclair with 292 Y block the motor has been rebuilt, it runs great and smooth! But it leeks oil from the breather tube on the side of the engine is that normal?? Any help will be great thanks..
That breather should have a can on top of it with a bolt through the center . The ***embly is held onto the block by 2 bolts There should be an o ring where the can meets the breather ***embly and a gasket between the ***embly and the block. If you remove the ***embly from the block you will find a drain back pipe that allows the oil to return to the oil pan instead of going out the breather tube. I have seen leaks caused by the filter can being crooked at the oring sealing surface therefore allowing the oring to leak. I have seen the oil drain back pipe clogged and I have seen the bottom of the ***embly (where moisture can sit) develop rust pit holes causing an oil leak. The “filter” and o ring are available new from places like Macs and Rock Auto.
