Hot Rods MANY OF US ARE BRAND LOYAL GUYS

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Aug 21, 2020.

  1. I, for one have always been a Blue Oval kinda guy, I have also owned other makes that are cars that fit in with the Hamb guidelines, I am also aware there are many guys that prefer the Bow Tie cars & trucks ans are as loyal as anyone.

My question today, to the Ford, GM and any other mark, Is there one car from the other automobile makers that you wouldn't mind owning?

I have never owned a '55 Chevy but the 2 door post cars have always caught my attention, how about you guys? HRP

I drove a '55 Ford 2 dr wagon for years and have had a succession of '56 Chevys over the years, they both felt very similar to drive and both felt like home. A good car is a good car no matter what badge it wears. These days I'm curious about the mid '50s Mopars like the '56 Desotos and Chrysler Windsors.

I'm not a brand loyalist. I like Fords, especially early Fords; but I like all Fords and even my daily drivers are Fords. But I also like Chevy's, especially the engines; both the small block and big block are great, legendary, engines. I like early Fords with Chevy engines. And you simply cannot argue about the incredible machines that are the 55 - 57 Chevy's. Or the same years in Pontiac, or Olds. And the Corvette. Or Chevelle. But I also like Mopars. I like 30's Plymouths, particularly 33's. A 33 Plymouth coupe is on my "some day" list. Hemi's, Poly's, Wedges, all great engines. Mopar's engineering in the 60's was top notch, as good or better than any at Ford or GM. I just like machinery in general, so I appreciate all make's attempts at cracking the code and grabbing their share of the market. I find the arguing about brands kind of ridiculous.

I am a chevy guy but have always liker the 57 ford over the 57 chevy. When I was in high school there was an slightly older guy who picked up his girlfriend from the school every day with one that had a tbird motor, a big cam, dual exhaust and I remember how it sounded to this day.

  9. It's been almost 20 years but a close friend of mine was being transferred to Kingsport, Tennessee and with all the cars he had there was one I couldn't take, it was a 1950 Coupe.

Mike chased the car for years and finally bought the car from the original owners son, when he bought the car he drove it home and took the car apart, after sandblasting the entire car we found zero rust, the sheet metal was perfect.

Anyway Mike had less than two weeks to move everything and a few days before he left he offered me the car , FOR FREE!

I wanted the car but I didn't have a place to put it, there was no primer on the car just bare metal, all the stainless was nice as was the chrome, another club member got the car and traded it for a Model A sedan.

I don't have a photo of the car but the last time I saw it the car was drop dead beautiful, gloss black exterior and red leather interior, it makes me sick to think I should have got the car and put it in storage, but I was in the middle of building a 1939 Ford convertible.

Like I.rant said, I can compile a list but I’m a Pontiac guy thru and thru. However, I would drive Gotgas’ mopar anyday!!! I watch Cold War Motors and have started to like the early 60’s mopars too. When I’m driving my 64 GTO everyone in an old car waves or honks including Vettes and Harley’s. I’m not picky anymore, I’m glad whatever old they are driving is on the road!
    Regards, Randy

I'm a mopar guy but I like "different". I would love to have a 59 Buick (love the aggresive look) or a 39 Graham. That thing is so ugly it's cool! Definitely different! A lot of caddies I like.....

  13. I'm mostly a hearse dude.. Like, Eureka are my favourite builder by leaps and bounds, but I've been very interested in potential opportunities from different coach builders in the past!
Far as standard cars go, I love GM. Always have, my mopar mates say I should grab a mopar to join em on club cruises so I spose a 57/58 Belvedere would be sick! I'd have it black though.. Just cause.

But yeah, on topic I suppose I've always been partial to GM since a kid but there's certain other cars I'd love too, 55 Cussos get me going, Edsels.. Love em. I think as long as it's cool I want it, life problems hahahaha

I always thought a 55 Plymouth with a HEMI would be cool. Especially a convertible...……...

  16. I am very die hard to Chevy's, post war cars and having their motors in a pre war hot rod. I loyal to pre war Fords, mainly 32-34 Pickups and Coupes, but I have to have at least a small block Chevy in it. I have always really liked 57 Oldmobiles as I love the 3 piece rear window they had and then the front ends looked better than a Buick to me. Lately though I have been really wanting a 55 Ford Victoria hardtop to do a mild custom build with. The 55 Ford is both a car I really like and really hate. I have always loved the look of the 2 door hardtops and sedans, but the crown vic top is the ugliest thing to me.

When I was around 8 or so I use to ride my bike a few blocks to a local junk yard. There was just a small fence that I got over and there in front of me where many, many 30's era complete cars in the front row. I would hop in and pretend drive lots of them. No one ever came by to chase me away. Well, I was hooked. Cars were it for me.
Brand loyal not really. Car Crazy, yes! :)

I've actually owned more Cadillacs than any other brand. I have my eye on a mid 50's Mopar hardtop (pre big fin) that I really like the looks of.
I'm another guy who would love to have a twin to Gotgas's Mopar though.
I really like the 55/57 Chevy 3100 short box trucks an like the 67/72 Chevy GMC trucks. I've had several 57/72 Chevy short box trucks go though my hands because as soon as I got them someone offered too much money for them. Still haven't built one.

Since I sold the Model A body and frame I am looking for something to put my flathead in and that will probably be a mid 30's bobber truck using up the left over hot rod pieces I bought for the Model A. I want to do a simple an uncomplicated build. Well finished but not complicated.

At 73 and on a limited budget I am not going to be doing a lot of builds except what is in the works now unless a pot full of money shows up on my doorstep and I can swing paying someone else to do most of the work.

Big fan of 40 Fords but also like trifive Chevys. Wife's 55 we have had for 43 years and it was our main car for many years-stone reliable! Have had maybe a dozen 40;s and same amt of trifives and a couple of C1 Corvettes. 50 Olds coupe is one I would again like to acquire--had two many years ago. Also really like 57-62 Pontiacs--owned several as well.

Nice taste. They are wonderful cars and not as many around. Here is my 56 Mopar small fin hardtop.

I'm a blue blood.... Fords and Chevys here.....

  24. I'm a Ford guy, but have owned other makes over the years. But I never had much luck with GM products in terms of reliability. Maybe just bad luck, but I developed an aversion to them after a while. Mopars were generally very reliable, but their styling was all over the map and finding non-rusted examples in rainy Washington has never been easy. And they can be worse than Fords in terms of parts interchange.

Sometimes it's just 'the Devil you know'.... LOL

  25. Depends on the car and year. There are many makes and models I would love to own.
Over the years I have owned 5- 1955 Chevy's and 6- 1932 Fords. And many more of both makes.

How about " A Way back Story"
I guess most start out liking what there Dad had?
But my Dad had a lot of brands.
My own fav. is Studebaker. I owned 5 of that brand, but the one Study I didn't get to start with,I really tried for when I was 14,I guess started that< a 53 hardtop coupe V8 two tone, low sporty streamlined . But with a bad rod bearing that was being fixed,by a small crankgrinder tool designed to do crank rod in the cars with pan off. So got to look at it apart, from in a work pit under the car. Hole car looked new at only 3 years old n spotless,I had the $$$ saved up from my paper route and loved the car,but Dad would not sign for it*< back in the 1950 you had to be 21* to sign for dam near anything...
    I really like a lot of others as well,Ford,Chevy,Cord,Henry J. Ya I'm weird-O greaser

I've always been a pickup kind of guy and have always leaned toward Fords. I've owned Ford trucks from Model T thru late 70's. I've always admired the Advance design Chevys and the '33-'35 Dodge pickups are my favorite style pickup ever. If I just had to have a car a '57 Chevy would be the one.

I guess I gravitated to Chevy because some 25 years ago, before the internet, it was easier to get parts for them here. I currently have 51, 53, 55, 56, 62 Chevys, 34 and 40 Fords, a 34 Plymouth and a 65 Riviera in the stash.Had other Buicks, Cadillacs, Pontiacs, a 67 Ford Truck etc. I also like all kinds of engines and enjoy working on them, but this year I worked on my first flathead, an 8ba and thought to myself: What the heck did they think when they designed that POS... ??? I love their sound and how they drive, but honestly... maybe they are like good wine and I just need to learn how to have them:D

  29. And ... power it with a Ford Flathead V/8. That might really piss a few purists off.
