Hello, I believe it is “Friends of Distinction,” and Hugh Masekela, but who is counting? Luckily, we have best parts of the album below (The Emancipation of Hugh Masakela) on our digital mp3 version library and it rocks our garage. Shades of 1966 in full blast stereo. Hugh Masekela was a big hit in So Cal. In 1966-67, my wife (then college girlfriend) went to a concert at our university gym. It was Hugh Masekela on the bill with the Three Sounds jazz group and one other headliner. I want to say Eddie Harris, but that is an old brain guess. We did see Eddie Harris there in the gym at his headline concert and at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach during the same time. It was one of Hugh Masekela’s first So Cal concerts. It was in the main floor of the old gym, not the new Pyramid Building. Folding chairs, nice rows and plastic tarps to protect the shiny wooden floor made the gym absorb the great music and not sound hollow. Jnaki For those that watch TV, Sal Masekela is Hugh Masekela’s son. "Grazing in the Grass" Hello, Nice choice of music for your garage. When the sound is up, it just makes one want to jump up and dance. Hugh Masekela hit the So Cal circuit with a big bang and in 1968, he had this hit "Grazing in the Grass, "on the "popular" song charts. Our best of his original 1966 album was this take on "Felicidade" from the original Antonio Carlos Jobim song. Felicidade Jnaki After listening to this song while working on our 1940 sedan delivery, it made me want to get better at playing the Congo Drums. The side of the sedan delivery and fenders were perfect to imitate the beat of those Congo Drum rhythms by Daniel Ray, originally from Savannah, Georgia.
I am one of the XM Satellite Radio originals & my shop radio is always on channel 27 "Deep Tracks" Cream, Traffic, The Beatles, etc Funny though, all the thousands of hours I am in the truck transporting & I listen to the Old Time Classic Radio Channel (Westerns, Detective shows, etc from the 30's-60's), the Trucking channel or Political stations, but the shop has to be playing Classic Rock!! Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On, Heart Breaker, Bring it On Home, The Lemon Song..... their second album does not have a bad track on it.
I listen to most anything in the classic rock genre but when Thunderstruck comes on the neighbors listen to it too.
