Long shot. Anyone recognize this lower Rear shock mount kick out bracket Used on 57 olds rear end under 32 ford? Probably came with some kit in late 70’s early 80’s. It’s 1/2” aluminum. Snapped it. Searched the Web with no
I actually did make one so I would not be down but was trying to find one to have a matched set. (So I can break it again.. Ha)
Do you have a picture of one installed on the car? It seems odd that it only has one attachment bolt.
I am no help on it's origin as I have not seen that setup used before. If it was mine I would make brackets out of steel, make sure it's not binding on the support bracket on the shock side, and find a way to incorporate a second attachment bolt. Also double check the shock travel to make sure they don't bottom out.
Looks to me like somebody had an alignment problem, so they made the L bracket to move the bottom of the shock over a bit. Probably not the best solution to the problem. I'd think the way the axle bracket necks down, and the alum L bracket gets real skinny, having a bolt hole right in the middle of it will only invite another broken piece. I'd for sure make the replacement out of steel.
Yes, I agree with @alchemy. The photo makes more sense now. The "kit" piece would be the support bracket which was the intended shock mount. The "L" bracket would be home made. So it looks like some time on the band saw. I would take some time to see if there is any way to improve the setup. Perhaps move the shock offset bracket to the front side of the intended shock bracket. You would have more room for a more robust bracket. You would then need to have spacer for the shock which could be an issue depending on the distance.
Alumium in a high stress situation obviously led to fatigue failure over time. Only one mounting bolt, it must be a snug fit in the bracket. Eventually all the suspension cycles caused it to break due to forces, fulcrum and lever.
