Hey all, As I start to gather pieces and parts for my traditional AV8 roadster project, I have heard some conflicting info on wishbone selection. Researching here has only added to that, as many thread were old and cliffhangers (no one reported back) I have a 32 K member I plan to use and I'm basing the build off the Tardel/Bishop book. In the book they suggest a 33-34 wishbone. I have then found on here that Bishop posted and the 33-34 wishbone had to be modified to use. Then others have successfully used a 32 wishbone with no issues, then others too long, ect. Has there been any new developments in the case of the wishbones? Obviously if either have to be modified, I'd rather modify the 33-34 (32 parts are expensive!)
I just went back and skimmed over it, he doesn't say it there but another poster mentions he DID state it in another thread. I'm trying to find that post now... EDIT- Went all the way back in his (av8's) posts as far as I could, 2003ish and didn't find anywhere where he stated a 32 wishbone was the ticket.
So I tried hard to follow the book when I built my coupe and found some interesting facts and measurements with one being the wishbone choice. I did use a 33-34 as suggested but found I needed to move the apex ball socket forward In the K member to make it all work. In other words, I think I would have been better off with a ‘32 wishbone. I did meet Vern Tardel a few years back at the GNRS and we had a laugh about it.
@UGOTBIT, you are right, he just states, "If you followed my bit of misinformation in How to Build a Traditional Ford Hot Rod and have collected a 33-34 wishbone for your parts pile that's the situation you're facing. Don't despair, I'm going to show and tell you how to set things right. The 32 is the right one.
Strong case for the 32 wishbone. I'll have to go back and re-read and see if I can find the exact issues guys had with the 32 bone.
Just found the post by Mike- In this thread- https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/flathead-v8-on-model-a-rails-how.58669/
