    Hi All,

I have pull the gas task out and found this 6" long tube floating around inside. I thought it was part of the breather. I've looked at the parts manual and can't see it. Any suggestions?

Also I'm going to paint before it and am looking for suggestions on what to coat the outside with?
Someone mentioned to me engine enamel as it is resistant to gas.

I'm pretty sure that tube was dropped in there sometime in the distant past. There wasn't one in my '53 tank, only the sock filter at the outlet. It's not part of the vent system.

Engine enamel may chip. I suggest glyptal. It's a rubbery paint used primarily on electric motors, etc. but has found uses in automotive applications. Some guys paint the inside of engine blocks with it because it promotes oil drainage back to the pan.

Looks like a pushrod to me and I would probably just use spray can silver rustoleum.

I used silver Rustoleum in the tank in my 54. Has held up good in the 10 years since I painted it.
