went to h/f saturday for some stuff. bill came to $29.63. they told me no change coming back because they round up to the next dollar. asked who gets the .37, kid(with at***ude) said h/f. not charity or anything else. told him i will contact the state about it. no signs about this so-called new policy.

That's because the slack-jawed mouth breathers they have to hire have no concept of how to make change. I always use my debit card, no issues.

Interesting.... I would go talk to the store manager first .... if you receive any form of at***ude , say you want a refund.

Really do not think they can do that. And it’s a matter of principle and your money. I am amazed when a clerk asks if I want my change? The store has more money than me .

Heck the big box store in our town has been doing this for the last month. They say they are donating the money to a children hospital. I think the money is going in their pocket. I quit shopping there a year ago when I got ripped of on some sale item.

there is a change shortage in the US. caused by the pandemic. people spending less, buying more online so they don't have to go to the store. also people are not bringing thier change into the bank as much any more
a business I go to rounds up but deducts it off your next purchase. this is a business where you have to be a member, so it is easy. to expect you to donate it to the store is a bit much. they should round down.

A lot of places around here have signs encouraging you to use correct change or a card.
Most go as far as saying they can not give coinage change.

Next time use a credit card and let them pay the 3% out of their pocket.

Many stores are doing that because of the "coin shortage"

Although the mints are all up and running and on schedule to make 2 million more coins than last year. Just a nice little way for them to bend you over for using cash

I saw a sign at a fast food burger shop that said "due to the nation wide shortage of coins to make change, please pay with a credit or debit card. If you have cash we will do our best to give you correct change back".

I agree that doesn't sound right. When I heard they pulled all the masks and face shields out of the stores and donated them to fight the pandemic I backed off my negative feelings a little.

Crazy as it sounds change is becoming hard to get for many retailers because everyone is using plastic money. Is it possible they round down when it’s under 50 cents? Just always carry 99 cents with you just in case this is catching on.

Here in Canada we have done away with pennies recently and change is rounded up or down to the nickel , dime or quarter which ever is closest. But what you are describing is considered robbery in my book.

I have learned which stores to stay away from. Normally nasty works it’s way down from the store manager.

  17. Me too! They would get the merchandise back. MY choice, not theirs.

It's nation wide due to the coin shortage.
The businesses want exact change or to use a card.

It's posted at my Harbor Freight store.

there is a good chance I would just turn and leave without saying a word if that happened to me. done that before for different reasons. no sense in arguing.
