The info I can find for those pistons says they would put the compression ratio above 11:1 a gas station by me does sell 110 octane, but that would be expensive having to use

I will be taking it to a shop to be safe. As far as the pistons go, the info i can find says they will produce a compression ratio above 11:1 with it being bored out and 64cc heads. A gas station by me does sell 110 octane, but that would be expensive having to use. I might switch to flat tops right away while it's at the shop.

  3. Matt, you can always use a large chamber head, 76cc were available as factory heads. See what C/R you'll get with that combination.

If, and only if, that 11:1 information is correct, for 64cc chambers, aluminum 76cc heads may be ok.

On a 4" bore, or thereabouts, 10cc in the combustion chamber is worth roughly 1 point in compression ratio.

So an increase from 64cc to 76cc should put you at about 10:1. Plus aluminum dissipates combustion chamber heat better than Iron.

Then, conventional premium fuel should be fine.

    I would have ran it.

Static comp is only part of the equation.

    He can't run it.

He said short block, not long block.

    Short block = no heads.

It is a partial short block, at that, because he's got no cam or lifters.

Looks like he honed it at home and didn't do a very good job. The hone looks more like a circle than a crosshatch. Don't mean to be overly critical but if thats the quality of the work the guy performed, you need to dis***emble it if for no other reason than to fix the honing.

I understand that, I guess a better way for me to say it would have been, I would not have dis***embled what is there.

^^^^^ exactly my point. Had this been honed by a machine, the crosshatch would have been uniform and pretty....something more along the lines of this....

  10. Looks like the hone job was done with a block home not a Christmas tree.

doesn’t look horrible but not “text book” either

don’t look bad but yes for what it’s worth take it to a machine shop
    Pistons are cheap also
And should be able to sell these ones and recoup some cake in the process

You have a lot more faith in someone else's work than I do, not that there is anything wrong with that. And I am not skeptical by birth, people have helped me become that way!
