It's time to put out some notification of this years East West Reliability Run for 2020. It will be held at the Monitor Hot Rod Cafe( Monitor Washington just north of Wenatchee Washington)
    on September 19 2020.

This is the run that was originally started by The Inland Emperors of the Spokane Washington area.
The challenge was and still is to see if the West side of the Cascade mountains Seattle area or East side ( Spokane WA western Idaho) bring the most cars. Bill makes a long distance trophy for this event also.

The Inland Emperors used vantage Washington as a meeting site for the run for several years before moving to the event to the Hot Rod Cafe in Monitor. The Inland Emperors have moved on to other interests and responsibilities but Bill Cordell known as Rusty Bill on the HAMB has been helping to continue the run for four years now.

Most of us have had a lot fewer opportunities to drive our cars this year and are ready for a good excuse to put some miles on the old flat head. I think the covid risk is pretty low for an event of this type. The Cafe's gr*** field is large enough to spread out and allow for safe distancing. Bring your mask and visit for awhile. I have attended several gathering there this summer. You can call your order into the restaurant or go inside to order. The staff then brings your food order out to you.

So if you want to get your Flathead powered car out for a run please put this event on your calendar.
You must arrive by noon to be counted in the challenge to see which side of the mountains wins this year.

If you can't bring your flathead powered car there is usually room to park your Hot Rod on the gr*** by the orchard to the South of the main Flathead gathering.

Go to the address below for info on the run location.

    https://www.facebook.com/MonitorHotRodCafe/

rusty bill is your contact guy. Bill Cordell 509 782-2289 Bill won't be able to attend this year but is a good contact for area information.I am also available for info on the run @ 509 679 3501or Profitsam050@charter.net.

I am. But it would be nice to know if anybody else is.....or if it gets cancelled.
Odd that there seems to be little interest with everyone *****ing about no car events happening this year?

Maybe if his plans are for in the evening I can bomb up there early click and yak, grab a burger and burn up the road coming back.

We usually don't get much of a response from the potential attendees of this event. As you may know collectively we are a pretty independent group not inclined to commitment until the last minute and most seem to be adverse to typing, that is responding to and email or a thread. Running a mouse and pushing key's are two entirely different disciplines.:)

There is no indication that this run will be canceled. If by some chance something should happen to shut it down I would let everyone know by next weekend so cancellations for rooms could be made in a timely manner.

I just watched my Flathead powered 32 pickup drive off on the back of a Transport truck. I do have a couple friends planning to head over and I plan to ride along or drive my oil burning Chevy powered roadster over to hide in the back lot

Darn... well drive that Chevy powered roadster on over. Plenty of parking for those chevys over by the orchard. I a have had to do that several times my self. My flatty is running good this summer though so the I will be driving the blue 40 coupe.

Sorry you can't make it micamountain. Recovery from your surgery is more important. Is the border open again?

The run is just one week away guys, It's time to dust off your ride and fill er up with some non corn fuel and get ready to to head over the mountains and or plains to Monitor for some socializing. Please remember to bring a mask for when you enter the Cafe to place your order.

Border is still closed so Micamountain would have had a long drive for nothing...

Well we do have smoke around here. I would say visibility is at a round a mile. We are supposed to have some rain on Friday. Maybe that will settle the smoke a little.

Yep, rain indeed! We got here tonight, camped at Chelan County fairgrounds and got dumped on twice quite heavy. Lots of lightning and thunder too! See ya tomorrow at the Hot Rod Cafe in my '31 Model A coupe. Was going to bring the '51 Ford coupe but found it had ZERO brakes. Next year for it I guess.

If you have ever looked at my previous albums of the event, I always have an added "out in the cheap seats" section for the non flathead cars out in the cheap seats.
In 2017 I listed it as "the rides without flatheads" https://app.photobucket.com/u/mr48chev/a/43534058-cc7b-451f-b9bc-8d25c9804abf

I'm not sure how that album is going to work but "out by the orchard" is over on the edge of the gr*** by the orchard. No need to park a rod out in the gravel. If your significant other tags along that innocent looking furniture store across the street is seriously high end. Think =wives of guys with BIG apple orchards shopping there.

I think I counted 20+ cars. Perfect day! You guys missed a good one. 600 mile round trip for us. Brought the 31 Coupe, no we didn't drive it, except from back and forth from Cashmere where we camped.
Put some name, faces, and HAMB handles to people but unfortunately I forget names way too soon. I wish this could be a 2 day event.
Hot Rod Cafe has some of the best food going and the owner and family are terrific people. Thanks for the shirt Ron!

Here are a few pics my wife took today early on.

IMG_9769.JPG Flatheads and hot rods in general were in short supply today but as always at the event some real interesting ones showed up.

First photos are what I know had flatheads. Then the rest of the batch.
The Black coupe was pretty wicked. Dwollam's A coupe has a lot of sneaky tucked into it. They wheeled in and had their pick of spots around the "tree". That is about the biggest prize you get at this event.

My internet is acting up so this is going to be a tad slow.

I didn't check the sign in sheet to see who had come from where. DWollam came the furthest as he is 160 miles due south of me. He Towed the car to the town where the Applets and Cotlets came from up the road a bit and I imagine are playing tourist a bit.

I've got a Smugmug album started with 25 of the 102 photos I took. Less cars = more photos of interesting cars https://robertdavison.smugmug.com/2020-East-West-flathead-run/ That will take some time to fill out. My photos are pretty high resolution as I didn't set the camera back from my usual landscape/sunset photo setting.

Yes it was a small turn out I counted 25 cars around 1 PM. But those that came seemed to be having a good time visiting.

Well as usual not many of the participants signed in. I don't see anyone who signed in for the West side so I think it is safe to say the East won the bragging rights for this year which is the only reward for winning.

I am glad i finally can put a face to your HAMB tag now Mr48Chev. Thanks for taking so many pictures. I have edited my pics and will add them here. I ma not a Tom Davidson kind of photographer but these will have to do.

Dave Wollam ( dwollam on the HAMB )Thanks for making the trip all the way from Madras Oregon again! Hope to see you again next year.

Considering all of the things going against this run being a success it was still fun to do and we will try again next year.

Here are the pics. I think I got pictures of all of the attendees. Some are not exactly HAMB friendly but most are.
