I need someone who knows Flatheads in and out.
My question is under the fuel pump stand there’s a metal sleeve that
Surrounds the fuel pump push rod. That metal sleeve has a notch in it
Like a piece was cut off it. I wanted to know if the notch faces the back or front of the engine. I would appreciate it if someone can tell me. I hope I described it
Well enough to know what I’m explaining. Thanks.

that tube is just a plain tube, square end, no notch, i just looked a bucket full of them. whatever some one did, is pretty irrelevant, it doesn't do much but help keep the oil mist from rising to the cap. just mount it however is my idea. more important, is the base flat? many are warped

Know the bottom of a stock pump has a recessed area to except the baffle. The typical stock ***embly protocol is gasket, oil Baffle, pump. Gasket after oil baffle installation can warp the fuel pump base ears. Common mistake.

Doesn't matter which way the cut out (?) is as it seats. It's just a baffle. The baffle cut's off the intake and also is used to add oil to the crankcase. The orientation of it is of very little continuance. If you could post a picture it wouldn't hurt.
