Hello, I am a new member to this forum. I have a 1955 Olds 98 Holiday Coupe. I need to adjust the gear indicator. Does anyone have any experience or tips? Pics would be appreciated. Thank you

There is only the shift control rod from the column to the transmission and the throttle valve (TV) control lever from carburettor to transmission, the later requires critical adjustment for the Hydramatic transmission to function correctly Do the detents in the column engage when you move the transmission through each individual gear position? Is there sufficient oil in the torus and transmission (8 1/2qts to fill of ATF type 'A' - Dexron nowadays).
As an example the Hydramatic detents in my 46 Olds column head unit were worn from constant use over the years causing the shift lever to be loose when engaged in any gear. It could be something as simple as that or worn bushings at end of column / transmission or carburettor / transmission (TV rod). A comprehensive workshop manual is handy and worth the investment.

Thanks for the info. The detents in column are there. I can feel each one engage. The indicator shows in neutral and drive. The indicator hangs up when engaging super, low and reverse. I did remove leads to neutral safety switch and cleaned them up. Is there anything in column or under dash I can adjust or replace? I do have a shop manual as well but not much in there that addresses issue. The Hydra-Matic does function properly. Thank you.

The dash indicator is electric operating with electric magnets used to move the needle.

Is it adjustable or serviceable and where is it located? Is it in the steering column or under and behind dash? Thank you
