I agree. Corvettes, along time ago, were meant to be modified. Many, many were parked because of fuel injection problems or wiring problems. They were ripe for young hot rodders to buy them cheap and modify them. Long live modified Vettes.

My uncle had a Fuelie and nothing but problems, he removed it, and replaced with a two 4bbl set up, while in there a bigger cam and headers were added for good measure. He had another fuelie that ran flawlessly and never missed a beat. He said when you got a good one they were fun.

Posted by Unique Restorations in the “What You See Today” thread but fits nicely in this thread. Cool looking Vette. I tried doing a direct link to his post but didn’t see a way to do it.

I would have changed it back to stock as well, that IMO is one ugly car.

There have been some pretty nice cars posted here lately including the black 62 with blackwalls and dog dish caps and the Purple People Eater. Like Dave I consider this one of my all time favorites. Probably my favorite roadsters are this car and Charlie Wilson's Vicious Vette. Some of these cars remind me why I like them in the first place.

Like any good thread there are always going to be subjects that separate the contributors. I understand the term hot rod and I suppose it is subject to how you define it. In a nutshell I believe modification is the operative word. You take a stock car and you modify it to go just a bit faster than it came off the ***embly line. A 62 fuelie is a hot car for sure but whether it would meet a "normal" definition of hot rod is certainly up for debate. Mike Lenke's 62 "stock" fuelie that won the 62 Winternationals and went on to take on all compe***ion in street eliminator, even taking down a supercharged Willys for the street eliminator ***le, heads up, was a hot rod in my book but not sure it was really as it came off the ***embly line (in fact with Earl Wade tuning I am sure it was not). Still an interesting debate.

As to customs, I am a drag race guy but I can really appreciate some customs but it saddens me to what the restorers are doing to history. When I grew up we had quite a few first generation Corvettes in the neighborhood (two on my street alone). Every single one was modified. I also remember the customs and some had excellent workmanship and they stood for a segment of the car culture of the day. If we were to restore most examples of Corvette hot rods and customs back to stock, the future will know what they looked like when they were brand new but how many will know what they really looked like back in the day, unless they look at old magazines?

    Good for debate though.

I thought I recently saw a picture of a corvette with the Super Duty Pontiac/ Ford truck hood scoop but I went back a ways and didn’t see it. Does anyone remember posting it?????

From Bobs Big Boy Burbank Cruise. A few pics I took, love to attend that cruise in every time I’m in LA.

Wow, big block. And it's been fitted without any visible mods to the hood. Well done. There was a kit made and sold to do that. The makers name escapes me now.

Bill Thomas had the first kits. And even with those you better have a low rise intake and dropped air cleaner.:)

lumpy 63 that's the name I was trying to dredge up.

vetrod62, I'm aware of the intake and breather. The Bill Thomas swap kit was quite a bit before your 20 years ago build as I suspect you know. I think the '57 would be a fun street car. But your car on the other hand clearly out guns it. It's all good.
