Is there anyone from Ontario that has been threw the process of getting an ownership and vin for a hot rod? We have contacted mto but it will probably be while before we get a response Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If you already have the car you will need the bill of sale and any other details from the seller ie. it was my uncle's car by name so the search is made easier. You will have to involve a lawyer to produce a do***ent that will be notarized to present to the MTO to generate an ownership to the existing VIN...that is of course after all searches for the VIN have been exhausted to clear it as NOT stolen or leined in any way... I went thru it and I suggest you get that over with before going all out with your build...from recollection it wasn't Terribly expensive either... Secondly if you are building from all mixed vintage sourced components the frame, engine or body may have a VIN which will probably have to be utilized as a basis for a renewed VIN...otherwise there are other options where a Completely NEW VIN and Tag may be issued. I think you must go through the Channels you are pursuing now (Service Ontario) for guidance. Good luck and one thing to remember there are lots of guidelines/requirments embedded in the fine print... Just a note to put your province on your profile...it helps with knowing which end of the spectrum your coming from...I saw Canada in your other post and not Cali so what I went through is applicable...Welcome to the Hamb...
Solid advice from someone who lives in the Province you live in. That is EXACTLY what you need. I'll suggest, Get yourself a 3 ring binder and some page savers. Put your bills of sale for major components in the page savers in some sort of logical order. You might stick in a photo of said part at the time you bought it to justify the price listed. The yes I paid less than going price for it but had to do a lot of work on it to get it to this shape thing. That book will save you a lot of h***les when it comes to having the rig inspected but I agree with Stogy in that you need to get the paperwork done as early in the build as you can.
So turns out he got an ownership made up by a guy that makes ownerships for the hot rodders around his area but it's not put in his name and said he is not to putting it in his name. Any thoughts about that? like to me that not a lagit ownership Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
There’s a guy here in Ontario that sells “ historical do***ents “ At every swap meet in Ontario. Not sure what the loop hole he’s working is but it’s 100% illegal. not sure the process but I know a few guys who got there cl***ic cars re-vin’ed by mto Still a rigamarol but might be easier then doing a vin search.
Yeah see I'm not sure exactly who made it but he's out by London Ontario the car I'm interested in is an Austin bantam coupe drag car. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Chris, The guy that has ownerships is George "Tex" Magee out of London On. Canada. His number is out of service though. And as far as I know, it was legal. I bought my ownership from him, had my car safetied (that might be tricky, best know someone who knows someone ) and had my own YOM plates (yomplates.ca) -Year of manufacture. And bill of sell for the body. Got taxed on that. Brought all that to the MTO office. The VIN was old (numbers appeared to be missing) and they couldn't find it in the database, and after a few calls, they just went ahead and registered it as is. Luck? no idea! There are guys out there, that have ownerships for sell. Use forums or FB groups to ask around for what you want. Not sure if this helps. Good luck!
