Not sure where else to ask, 1949 ford custom 6 cyl, removed visible bolts, can't see anything else to get the starter off. Whacked at it but seems like it's still bolted on someway. Anyone got an online repair manual?

I stole this from another site, but:

"Put the long bolts back in - til they bump into the threads. Otherwise the starter will come apart in pieces. When you get it out, put nuts on the thread to keep it together.

You have to tip the front toward the engine and up slightly as you tip the bendix out and down. The boss of the bendix has to clear the ring gear as it sits behind it in normal position. That's what usually hangs up."

Might also be a clip that attaches at the oil pan. I don't know - grandpa pulled the flathead out of my '51 a long time ago.

Nice to see you replied with "thanks"! Seems like a lot of people ask questions, get replies, and never come back to say if their problem was resolved...
