I prefer to get them complete with brakes, even of it all junk you can see what was on it.

Im looking at 8.8's lately, most of what I plan to build will be just fine with one. I do have a few 9" stashed away.

I think I gave $75 for my 8” 67 Fairlane rear end. It had a 2.79 in it, I swapped in a 3.00 from a Maverick rear I had. I have a 3.55 from a Mustang II I may put in after I drive it with the AOD if the 3.00 lugs it too much. I’m running it open, don’t have any need for a Trac Loc, it’s just a cruiser highway car.

I just bought some 31 spline 5 on 5.5 from Quick Performance if you’re looking for some in the future. Also you can get a small web centered housing from them in your width for $300, hard to beat.

In So Cal, 9 inch rear ends have become gold,, prices are high and supply very low,,,,
$500 is a common asking price for a wide one out of a truck, Mustang or any car, $750

A friend of mine has used 8.8s on a few Jeep builds and has determined that they are pretty robust. Being the correct width for me, I installed one into my '51 Chevy Styleline with 3.73 and factory posi. So far I'm impressed.
