Jeez, thats a nasty name!!!!---Okay hows this "Roadster Pickup gets Radiator Overflow Tank".---I have never had a problem with the roadster pickup cooling system, but now that the summer weather is truly here, it does the odd embar***ing thing. I noticed this a couple of weeks ago, on one of my hundred mile jaunts. I pulled into a donut shop, which of course had all the "hangers on" setting outside the shop going "OOH, AH,---What a great hot rod"!!! I walked in to get a coffee, and when I came back out, 10 of them had to "warn me" about the puddle of green coolant that had leaked out of the overflow tube from the rad.---kinda spoils the effect!!! So---I ordered the 17" polished stainless overflow tank from Vintique, and installed it last night. I don't imagine it will make any difference in the thermal dynamics of my cooling system, but it should avoid "the green puddle" on hot days.
I read the heading and thought it had something to do with your aggressive driving style and a fear of ruining the upholstery...This is a much more pleasant thread than I expected. And the tank looks nice, Too!!
I like that truck. I guess it's what SamIyam described as "Traditionally Styled" so the puke tank, well, any overflow tank works in my book. If you have a coolant recovery system style radiator cap it will work much better than it did, because it will be full all the time. I run just a 7 LB cap because my unobtanium-core '39 Chevy heater was originally made for a no-pressure system and I don't want to "pressure" it into handling more than it needs to. You can ID the recovery system caps by them having two rubber seals. one on that spring loaded part and another up under the cap lid itself so that the radiator is also sealed above what used to be the overflow tube. Then of course, the ovrflow tube has to be hooked up to the tank fitting that goes to the bottom of the tank to pickup the coolant. You may know all this stuff already, but it's for anyone who isn't that familiar with how the cooling system can work. I can't help it, I gotta say, I think the alternator would look better the same color/finish as the carburetor instead of body color. The pinstripes are HOT!
90 F on a hot day. Quick and nasty conversion---take whatever it is in celsius degrees, double it, and add 30 and you will get ball park Fahrenheit. or---take whatever it is in Fahrenheit, subtract 30, then divide by 2 to get ball park Celsius.
I have a 15 pound pressure cap, and yes, when I had the radiator built I did have the proper neck installed. It is plumbed correctly, (the Vintique units even come with plumbing instructions). Someday when I get rich I will buy a chrome alternator.
Nice kit car man!... j/k.. I love you truck, and the addition of the "puke tank" is a plus. Pinstriping looks great too.
