Good evening gentlemen. I’m going to give this thread a little bump. I got a question. I’m looking at mocking up my engine and trans for the 60 Catalina with the 63 block and ****ter shield. It looks like the clutch linkage is pretty specific to the factory bellhousing.
Has anyone here made a bracket to adapt the clutch linkage to a later bellhousing or am I stuck using the early stuff?????

I think 60 Chevy would be the closest,I think 59 and 60 Olds have the pedals coming up through the floor for a manual trans.

I’ll have to check and see what Chevy did. I know this set up is pretty different (as seen in the pics posted earlier) and Chevy likes to use a Z bar an a ball stud on a lot of their clutch linkage designs.

As touched on earlier, the Pontiac linkage will bend if not set up as intended. Or at least there is a good chance of it bending.

We had to adapt 56 pedals to a 64 bellhousing. Our first attempt was a failure. Wanted to bend. We ended up making a bracket and using a Z bar (round bar being stronger than flat bar). We also used heim joints as we couldn't get a direct shot.

There is a video in my thread.

And a pic of what failed.

Some of the Pontiacs have the pivot ball on the bellhousing instead of the block like chevy.

Thanks man, I haven’t got to the clutch linkage part on your build but I am enjoying and learning as I go through it from the beginning. I’m sure I’ll have some questions for you as I go.

Just pulled may 389/3 spd manual trans out of my '60 Safari for clean up and refresh. Ditching the 8.6 CR engine for a 10.25 from a Ventura and will be re***embling the 3 on the tree set up. These photos are exactly what I need. Everything is so covered in grease and mud it's impossible to see what it was supposed to look like. Some odd looking retaining springs and levers.. Amazing amount of small parts to do such a simple job but I'm glad I have it all. Just hope I can get it back together and work as it should.. Thanks for posting these great photos.
