I hate almost every minute of my job. As Service Manager of a large Chevy dealership I have to put up with all kinds of ****, I field all the complaints from the lot boys all the way up to the General Manager/Owner of the place and alot of the customers are just nut-case consumers (it's never anyone's fault but ours). Sure I make killer bucks but it isn't worth it. I can't wait to get home at night to go out into my shop where the hot rods sit........even if I don't do a thing out there...it's peaceful, my little piece of Heaven.
So far the "shop owner" life has been pretty good, and we are getting busier by the minute. However,as much as I love my "job", it can definitley collide with your life. Wifey and I went through a rough patch about a month ago...seems to have cleared up. the most annoying part of the job is the more money you make, the more you need...it's no lie. We are actually planning an expansion. I don't need any more guys, but I certianly need more room,ya dig? more room for more cars,=more rent, meaning I have to do more cars, and will eventually need even more room, more employees, and it just keeps building. but this is year 3, and everyone said it would happen this way...I just didn't expect it to happen all at once! but yeah, overall, since the changes went in to effect, My shop is a happy place to be!
im in brussels right now, headed to frankfurt on friday and the girlfriend is going tomeet me there on saturday, then off to amsterdam on wed. then to paris, then munich..... i love my job right about now
I LOVE my job. I drive parts for Ford. But I been sick lately. Being ill ****s when you LIKE your job!!!
A friend had my dream job, working for George Poteet, who as most know has quite a stable of hot rods, with more being built every year. I couldnt believe it when I found out he quit, said he actually got tired of going to shows and swap meets across the country. He got to play with all Georges toys too, not only hotrods but musclecars too, including doing donuts in a original 427 AC Cobra he used to own....they'd have to shoot me to make me leave a job like that.
I tell people what numbers on the computer screen mean. Sometimes clients are difficult but otherwise I like what I do. Mostly I like making enough money to play with cars and trucks on my own time. I once turned a hobby into a business. It didn't work for me, I now keep hobby and career very separate.
I get to restore military aircraft and vehicles for one of the largest museums here in Australia. I can't complain.
A buddy of mine recently quit wrenching for GM mechanics, after close to 30 years. His new job is working for a guy restoring cars and building hot rods. He's loving th change, went from looking for noises in cars with 3,000 miles to working on old iron, cut his one way drive down from 65 miles of winding 2 lane roads to 12 miles. He took a pay cut to make the switch, but gained 12+ hours a week of driving time and the cost of gas. I'm working for a pipeline fabrication shop, dealing with inventory and do***entation. Looks like the next 4-5 years are gonna be big ones.
