This cool little '61 Falcon I just got has a 2v (ugh never been a ford guy) 1966 289 out of a Mustang. Runs lumpy, real lumpy, I gotta jam my B&M Pro-Stick in neut. at stop lights till it is good and warm, yes even in 90 plus degree temps. Anyway I am going to take off the 2v ....**** it.....2 BBL manifold and carb and toss them over my fence into the church yard and get something a little different. JUST found in my stash a vintage Holley 450 cfm used as a "service replacement" on fords 302 to 429s. Seems a little small to me, but I have never figured out the big inch small carb thing. So I HAVE this carb already and am thinking of buying the Weiand Street Warrior which of course they suggest using the Holley 470cfm or 570cfm Avenger, which I probably will upgrade to down the road. Anybody have any experience with this setup on a sbf? Sbc? Anything? Anything I am missing? Will also upgrade to headers IF I can find some to fit, but that might be asking too much. Thanks in advance. Sammy EDIT to ad, This is just a little cruiser for local shows, I am not trying to make this one of my fast cars, just a little better performance and maybe pick up a *little* mpg.
Cool Thank you. I don't know why but I really like your avatar. Anyone else have any knowledge of the Weiand street warrior? Sammy
I use Weiand intakes quite often in my lower end O/T builds, I really like thier stuff. Ive never heard of the Street warrior, any chance you can post a picture, thanks TR
Looking at them both on Summit the Street Warrior shows Idle-5500 as it's sweet spot and the Stealth is Idle-6800. They are both Dual Plan low rise designs but every 289 I've had liked the Rev's. I'd think the Street Warrior would be just fine on a cruiser 289 and a hell of a lot better than the old 2 barrel. I've thrown the same 600 Holley Vacuum secondaries on every SBF I've owned and run the dog**** out of them with no problems. PS I found that coupe literally out in BFE Kansas while bird hunting. There wasnt a house or barn within I'd say at least 30 miles. Was a cool find.
TR, It's been so long since I have posted any pictures, I will have to wait to get a little help from the little lady. I'm a bit of a techtard. Plus it's hard to FIND a picture of them I have only seen two. Usually when you click on the "enlarge picture" of the "Street Warrior" they show you a large pic that clearly says "action plus" on them. But the SW does look a little different and they claim (of course) somewhat better hp and torque then the Edelbrocks. Which I have never had a problem with Edelbrock carbs OR manifolds, just thinking of trying something a little different an looking for some real world experience. As I said I need to learn how to post pix, makes things much easier. Thanks again guys, I appreciate the information. Sammy
Ya Im pretty sure about any newer aluminum manifold and up to 600 carb would work fine for our intents and purposes. Just thinking about the street warrior cause its a little different. The 1939 Desoto in my avatar was not for sale when I took the picture, he was a friend and was going to build it. Then he had a heart attack and died. After a year or so I approached his wife about the car and she wanted $3000 for it, it was just a shell. I about had a heart attack and died. Needless to say, the avatar is the closest THAT car will ever be, to being my own lol. Sammy
I'm not good with the pictures and our computer either dont feel bad. I see the manifold now, it's like the Edelbrock PERFOMER, low rise dual plane. Has spread bore type opening flange with bolt patterns for both straight and spread bore carbs.
THERE ya go! Thank you BigJake! He's like the dude that made the Statue of Liberty disappear! Magic. They have them in polished $199 and some sort of perma chrome finish? or something I didn't quite understand, not that it matters because that one was closer to $300 if I remember right It was coated with something to keep it shiny anyway. They have a "as cast" or whatever for like $130 I MAY splurge for the $199 polished one IF they are any good, just because my Falcon is so shiny, which is a new thing for me. Most of my rides have been (and are) usually laughed at or just steered clear of, like they might catch something from the rust or they are scared I can't see out of my shattered windshield. "whats a Nailhead?" they ask. "Does that actually RUN?" is another. Or "A Gremlin? Why a Gremlin"? you get it. Thanks for the pic BigJake! Sammy
I'm running one on a newer SBC. It's been bored and has a Lunati cam. Running a 650 Holley double pumper with manual secondaries without a problem.
Being a SBF nut take this for what it is worth, since Holley bought Weiand out they have done some cost cutting as Edelbrock has by eliminating the rear water p***ages in these intakes which is not a great idea as the SBF blocks are a thin wall casting. This intake has the rear water p***ages for more balanced cylinder cooling (see pictures) http://www.ebay.com/itm/SBF-Ford-28...ash=item2cb628d1a1:g:2pkAAOSw44BYNK2L&vxp=mtr I am running the polished version of this intake the low end and mid-range is very strong http://www.ebay.com/itm/SALE-PC-Sma...d=272618763792&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 I've had it for over four years it just wipes off and stays clean.
I prefer the Weiand warrior over the Edlbrock.. Weiand has a wider powerband & will still rev up if you are so inclined. I think the Weiand Warrior is a better all around intake for a street driven SBF & makes good torque & HP with a 600 vacuum secondary Holley. And with a cammed up engine will handle a 650 cfm carb although I personally prefer the 600 cfm for the roads I drive on. & I get decent fuel mileage if I can keep my foot out of it!
I have a Weiand, pre Stealth, on a blow through turbo set up. Ran great on the naturally aspirated 347 with a Quick Fuel 650 DP, now doing the same with the same carb set up for boost. Seems to make a decent amount of tq down low and carry through to a respectable RPM for the street. I shift about 6500 and even before the turbo it pulled strong from idle to there.
