Interesting. So there is potential that the truck is an older build than I am thinking....hmmm.

    Thanks for the info!

Well I’ll be. A cool old hot rod surfaces and it’s in the hands of a H.A.M.Ber. All is right with the world..... Congrats.
P.S; try not to put a SBC in it if you can avoid it.

Neat car, but the slot head screws seem a little dubious:

Funny. That was one of the first things I noticed when I looked at it.

I'd really like to find out if this truck had any prior history before Charles Harrel had it in Arizona. It is a VERY well built vehicle, though somewhat a victim of the time frame it was built. I wonder who built it. How long it had been an RPU on 32 frame. Was it a prior hot rod?

Looks like those front tyres have the correct amount of patina to suit the fanatics on this site.

They still hold air! They are just rollers. Plan is for polished Americans again.

What if you could use a 392 Hemi? Easier to come by.

Here's how you can have your Hemi and SBC, too. (Fooled most the local street rodders for a week or two.)

I had always been under the impression that this was a slightly earlier build that had been updated for the early-'70s. Even though I wasn't around then, I don't think 16x10 Americans on piecrust M&H slicks were the wheels to have in the era of Wide Ovals, Polyglas GT's and CB radios.

There is some evidence of metallic lime green paint under the yellow.

The way the R & C article reads Charles Harrell had the work done. But that could be an artistic liberty.

I got my copy of 50 Years of R&C. Which I highly recommend if you don't have a copy. It just has the one picture like posted above. But it's still cool to have "proof" in my hands. I'm kinda wondering if Charles Harrel is still alive. Gonna have to look him up!

I think I found it. July 1964 issue of Rod & Custom, owned by Marion Jordon from Phoenix. The location looks right and look at how the rear radius rod is mounted with a Ford wishbone ball. There is a very similar roadster pickup owned by Tom Prufer in Rodder's Journal #63 when he was in Tucson, but enough differences to make it questionable. What do you think? If it was owned by Tom Prufer, it would have been red.
Tom once flew Rod Powell out to New Mexico desert to a tin building with water, electricity, and a new Prufer '32 three window project.
Rod had to paint it prior to the Roadster show, (RED!)
Tom sure liked red hot rods, built one a year for decades...

The article says black. Supposedly it has '35 rear radius rods and a 44" long bed but that could be the writer taking a wild guess. It definitely has a chrome rear end. The only things that really define it are the rear radius rods which look the same. Lots of differences over a 10 year stretch.

From what I can see the rear frame step looks the same as well.
