I was looking at some pictures of the Bill Bush 49 Mercury 4 door sedan that Barris built in the 50's, and noticed I really liked the floating bar grill that's in that car. It's different than every other one I have seen. Does anyone recognize or know what parts were used to make it?

Thats a super small pic but I will guess that it is the outer lights from a 54 Chevy and the center bar with teeth from a later Desoto.

the lights are not 54 Chevy, those are rectangular. The one in the merc are round. I think the teeth are like 52 Chevy or something like that. Dont look like a Desoto. Not sure what the lights are from. Could be a light bucket off a 30s car.

That could be correct, but again, hard to see the pic, at least for me. Doesn't one of the Chevy Grilles have round lights on the ends?

Here's a better shot of the grille in Bill's Merc.

I saved it to my computer and expanded it and it looks to be mix and match.

The Bar kind of looks like 52 Chevy with extra teeth but the teeth don't quite look like the 52 teeth I found on Ebay.

1953 Plymouth center. Not sure what the park lights are. They are bigger than '39 Chev or '37 Ford taillights.

Thanks for figuring out the center bar. I'm still trying to figure out the park lights, but that at least gives me the main part.

I believe the park lights are '51 Frazier. Barris used them on several cars

It's also possible that they were "Dummy" spotlight housings. I would check with Rik over on the Custom Car Chronicle site.

53 Chevy's had round lights, but these look smaller than the 53 units

I believe those parking lights are Henry J

  15. There are tons of motorcycle taillights that can do the duty.........
but white lenses make that complicated.

I think "squablow" nailed it with the lights...

Without the center tooth on the “J” or if was upside down and cut off flat, you could have another “stumper” for Merc aficionados.
