Dropped a load of junk from the shop at the scrap yard the other day. The foreman asked if I was interested in a couple of old intakes. I brought them home!
I wish our scrap steel place would let you buy stuff,.. I seen a complete 32 Ford front axle assm. with wishbone under a old farm trailor,.. they are under contract to a big steel place in Bay City and woulden't sell it for any amount of money,... also seen a 35 plymouth grill in the same place,.. What kind of intakes did you get ?
edelbrock OL396 and OL496-should fit olds 303-324. This is a mom and pop family run yard out in the country-so they were looking to make more money. The big yards in Columbus, Ohio will not sell any of the scrap that comes in.
That is just plain retarded, the guy could have easily told you to come back later and grab it when nobodys looking. What if you offered to replace the stuff with something that weighed an equal amount?
Nope !, there's actually a guy from the big steel place in the office and in the yard, I offered to bring in twice the weight in steel, no dice,.. So I offer them $100, the jerk from Bay city said nothing leaves the yard unless it's in one of there trucks. ( I just don't understand that logic )
Sounds like someone deserves a kick in the teeth.......I hope you dropped a few choice phrases on him on the way out.
I spotted a deuce frame ready to be melted at the local foundry several years back.....now THAT was tough to see....
Nice, Sometimes I get lucky here and am able to buy from those guys...Just Imagine for a second what has gone by the way in scrap yards....Disturbing.
My guess on the manifolds was going to be Y-Block. The scrap yard here by me has big signs posted all over that say "We DO NOT sell parts". I don't understand the logic of not selling or trading for the equal weight. I guess it's the old "If we do it for you, we'll have to do it for everybody" mentality. It sucks to see good stuff get wasted. I've seen neat stuff, but never anything super rare like old speed parts, etc.
start a friendship with the foreman and the yard workers. In the summer I carry gatoraid and sometimes give them a little money for lunch and breaks..You will be suprised what a kind word and a lousey cup of coffee will get you in life.
What amazes me is that in this day and age, what with the speed channel and everything else automotive that's being rammed down everyone's throat, that there's still someone dense enough to throw something like that away. Oh, well; you fell into a bucket of shit and came up holding a couple gold coins--good for you. You've got to get lucky once in a while. My '50 303 engine came from a scrapyard, complete with a stick flywheel and homemade mounts from where it had been bolted in an old Ford. Luckily, the owner/operator at this yard had no qualms about taking $15 for it.
[ "We DO NOT sell parts". I don't understand the logic of not selling or trading for the equal weight. I guess it's the old "If we do it for you, we'll have to do it for everybody" mentality. yeah and make 10 times the money!!!stupid people suck!!!!!
