Me and my buddies are going to Albuquerque to see "The Rev" play. I was just wondering what else there was to do in town. I know about the Atomic Cantina and the Tiki lounge. What about day stuff or other events?
Westside Hooters show on Saturday 11-4pm, Chops Show at the Bowling Alley at Louisiana and Lomas on Sunday.
Is there anything else to see in ABQ? I am in town through the 30th - at the horse show at the fairgrounds there on Lomas. I saw a neat little 32-34 pickup today a block off Central, near Washington....sitting curbside in front of a house - said something on the door like "scoundrels" or something...
I'm not sure what other shows are going on. There is a little museum up near Bernalillo on 528 that has some neat cars. A lot of Great American Race Stuff. The back lot has some neat stuff too. I think it is called J&R Vintage something. Al Unser also has a museum in town here if you like racing. You might want to check the schedule of the Raceway west of town, I think they race vintage cars and motorcycles sometimes.
I drove through the Hooters parking lot today at about 11:30 or so - the only cool thing I saw was a '55 F-100, pale blue old paint with a nice rake. The guy at "The Service Station" on 4th Street told me about it. Those are some nice people - they sell mainly '47-59 GM pickup parts. I will check out the deal on Lomas and Louisiana tommorrow - I don't recall about bowling alley on that corner though?? The Chevy dealer, a BK, gas station - I guess teh SE corner? I still can't get over how much raw material is available in this town - I have seen at least 10 super-nice AD chevy pickups, mid-50's wagons, early 60's ford and gm cars - tons of early v-dubs. I pickup on the pennysaver today and went and looked at the '36 Ford pickup in there for $3500 - it is pretty damn nice - one of you locals should buy that thing! It is down on 47 in Bosque Farms area....nice place down there - Are there any good junkyards around with early stuff? I saw going south on I-25 to the west there seemed to be several junkyards...anything worth walking through?
The only lot I know of with old stuff down there is on Broadway just north of Rio Bravo. Nice walk but priced a bit high. You would like the museum though. Cool stuff out back. The Hooters show did suck. I'm sorry I sent you out there. The other show today should be more traditional. There is a lot of steel out here, you got that right. It just takes time to get some of these guys to let go. There are a few other shops around town that do cool traditional stuff like Hot Rod Haven. Radshit has a shop out here that he is sharing with Sammy over off of 4th. You just gotta poke around.
Thanks for the help. I heard about the show at Hooters but we ended up talking Hot Rods with my uncle all day. I saw a boat load of old steel too. There was this awesome looking Black model A sedan on Coors it looked chopped and channeled, hard to tell I was driving.
