I have seen exhaust wrap cause rot when used on aluminized or steel pipe. But will it cause any issues on 409 ss tubing?

I have it on my exhaust pipes from headers to h pipe since 2003 no problems. My pipes are stainless though on.

I don't think it would be an issue on pipe between the head and muffler, no matter the brand. But 409 steel will rust, the 300 version will not.

  5. I do not know about today but back when exhaust wrap was popular in the '90s it would void the warranty on most headers. I have not seen wrap rot as much as much as I have seen rusting of the tubes. That should not be a major issue with good stainless tubing.

I'd paint them first and then wrap them. I learned this with an OT car that I replaced the headers on. I thought it was supposed to be stainless set (it was a previous owner's work). When I swapped headers, I was told to paint them first, especially since the headers were in an area that could get wet. Later, I actually had to rewrap one (due to my own error) and the header looked great underneath, far better than the previous one.

I've used the modern ***anium wrap on carbon steel and various stainless steel headers without problem.
On said stainless headers, were motorcycles that get driven in the rain. A couple (4) of my bikes have gone well over 100,000 miles.
None have any rot through problems. Granted, I've never pulled the wrap off...but none have produced any leakage out of holes.
I even use two layers of wrap on the bikes when near any oil lines, filters, radiators, etc., etc.

The "***anium" wrap drains water quickly. Not like that old while stuff that actually held onto water and not let it drain.
NO NEED to pain the tubes when using the ***anium wrap.

I’d say you answered question. Doesn’t mater if 409 or 392 etc. and if stainless it shouldn’t matter.
