I recently traded for a 52 chevy. Didn't get any paperwork. Unfortunately its missing the VIN tag on the door frame. Is there an alternate vin location on the car? The trim tag doesn't have the vin. I guess next time ill look before I leap...
52 just had the one on the door post.. i bought mine with no paperwork too.. but it did have the VIN tag... im sure you can find one pretty easily.. then just have the vehicle inspected.. good luck!
I seam to recall seeing the vin in the back window area as well on a car I chopped weird ass place but it was there. I could remember wrong but I think I'm right. Dave Hitch FBBF
Maybe it was the door post I think I still got the peice it must have been from the post if I still got it! Dave Hitch FBBF
heres some good info on a recent thread.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=658967&highlight=52+chevy+vin
get one from the junkyard, tell the inspector the previous owner took it off the car because he was going to chop it or something, pray for mercy, have a bill of sale
Look on the top of the rear frame horns after the cross member above the rear end. (use a mirror to see it) That's where my 49 Buick frame was stamped. The number matched the ID tag screwed to the drivers door post. Maybe Chev did the same thing?
About the only important decodes in the 1952 serial number are the year ID and the ID for deluxe or standard, and I'm not sure the DMV would know or care about the latter. There's nothing in it to indicate engine, body style, or anything specific to the car. Meaning that you have no way to know if a tag fell off from your car, or the 4-door parts car next to it, if you didn't see it attached to the car previously....
what about the engine number? have you decoded the number on the title? That will tell whether it was engine or serial number
Bob wop is on the ball here, a 51 52 chevy car is- not- titled to the factory number tag on drivers side door janb post...engine number is the right number that should be on that title.there were also the same engine numbers on the driver side frame rail at the door line. this is info I gleaned from just being inspected at the Missouri highway patrol inspection of my 51 bus cpe..... motor numbers before 54 and VIN only after 53 -After 53 the title number did match the tags on the body at the windshield post....
If ya Actualy google [VIN]vehicle identification number],you will see that that wording and/or designation process was put in place in '54
I don't have any paperwork on this thing at all. It doesn't have the motor in it. The only it does have is the cowl tag. It has a body serial number but that's it. I'm not sure what I can do in ks. I have found a 51 parts car that's even the same body style. I guess this car may become a 51 with a 52 grille
my 51 is titled off the motor, which is no longer in the car, it was yanked about a yr before I bought the car as a newer 235 was installed. bothered me at first but since it had a good title I was not worried about it not matching. Choprods - did not know about same engine numbers on the driver side frame rail at the door line. (where is the door line?, forward or rear of the door??). is it on the top of the rail between frame and floor or on the outer side of the rails
It's an old thread but for anyone searching, my VIN number is the engine block number. Being I have the original 216 engine, it's not a problem. I did get a letter from the Calif DMV years ago saying the number was too short and asked if I would I check it. I replied it was correct and they have since left me alone. If I ever have to change engines, I'll just contact my local DMV, explain the situation and there should be no problem.
