Fooling around with the new toy Ranchero. Trying to come up with a direction. Tossed on a couple of hood scoops to see what I comes to me. First photo is the stock hood. Next photo is a small boss style. Next picture is a large boss style. Next picture is like the Two Lane Blacktop 55 Chevy. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I threw up a little in the back of my mouth. Drinking Crown Royal to remove the aftertaste. If you must, how about a 57 tbird scoop?
I hope none of those "come" to ya. Those are 70's things that never worked for me even in the 70's. Hard to beat the lines of a nice 57 Ford.
Back in the day 50 years ago, one of the guys in the neighborhood took one of these from McDonalds and pop riveted the lid of this on the hood of a '64 Falcon with a fire breathing 170ci inline six. Even had a cable affair linked to the gas pedal so the door would open like butterflies. Now that's the ticket
I gotta say that none of those look as good to me as the original hood. Is it a “looks” thing or a clearance thing?
I would think more on the lines of a 57 T-Bird type lower profile scoop, if you really think you need a scoop. Those cars have some very nice lines, and it would be a shame to kill it with something bizzare.
Be a "little..." less obvious..! My scoop is made up from the center of the hood, of the car that can be seen in the top picture. I cut the center out, then turned it around backward...and welded it on. As completed, three layers of weld, grind flat...no bondo. Also...not so obvious, but still plenty functional. Mike
I had to have a scoop for hood clearance plus trying to keep the under hood temps down. It must have worked because I have around 50-60 degree difference from intake to the filter base. Put anything you like on there just don't use a cowl induction unit on your Ford.
'58-60 T-bird would be my choice for stylin'... Period-correct performance look would be a teardrop blister as used on the '63-64 Fords with the high-rise motor.
The teardrop wasn't really a scoop. Used mainly for hot air escape and under hood clearance. Unless it's just for looks then go for it.
I like me a Studebaker! I was looking for a Studebaker when then fell in my lap. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
To answer a few questions. The hood scoops were what I had lying around. Other than the Two Lane Blacktop scoop. I made that out if construction board. I've seen 58 hoods and they look great. My dilemma is my 289 has a tunnel ram with two Holly 450's on it. I'm trying to possibly prepare myself for hood clearance issues. However I'm still undecided if that's what I want to run it. However it's what I got. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
