I can't decide if I like the headlights better in the factory spot (picture 1) or mounted on the fenders (picture 2). I generally agree with most members styling suggestions on the board so I tought what better place to ask. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Just to be contrary, how about mounting them on the grill, but drop the mounts a couple of inches. That way people will notice that it's different, they just won't be able to figure out why.
What he said, in fact I considered doing that on my 40 GMC. The shell mounted lights is what says it's a Chevy and not "I wish I was building a Ford so I'm going to mimick one with the lights." The only functional thing I can see a problem with on the fenders is vibration. They don't call the Chevy's with runningboards "Floppy Fenders" for nothing. Also if you do that, you'll be turning them 90º so you will need to weld up the drain oles and drill new ones at the new bottom and recut the wide bulb locator slot if those are sealed beams. For a fender mount, if it would clear the tires, I could see a Cord, hideaway headlight in that fender. It's about the same shape as a '30's Cord. That wouldn't look like "Ford had a better idea" or look "Street Rod" either.
Thanks Guys. Larry I think that might be the way to go. I will have to mock it up and see what it is like. I have a feeling it will look very similar to having them on the fender with out actually having to put them on the fender. My only fear is how they will work with my hood side trim when they are right in on the grill shell. Only one way to find out I guess. I like the frenched look as well so I may have to explore that a bit as well. Alot more work than just lowering them though lol.
