Here is my '61 Chrysler Newport project...bought it from a guy off Craigslist for $1500 delivered. Plan to build a 300 clone. Since then have bought 3 parts cars...all '62s to furnish parts needed to finish her off and extras. My best parts car was bought recently...has a rebuilt engine with about 5k miles, built by Ed Hale in San Diego....has an Edelbrock intake and carb too...best part is that it was already converted to disc brakes and came with newly chromed, still wrapped bumpers front and rear. Got that 62 for $1500 also. Exner all the way! Will have many parts to sell off those 62s if anyone needs anything..

Thanks buddy....I ended up with 3 parts cars as part of a learning curve. I found out that 62s used a 1 year aluminum cased torkflite, that is easily rebuildable compared to a 1961 model. The 62 trans works with the 61s pushbutton shifter. So now I have 3 of those rare transmissions. My 61 looks like it was an abandoned body shop project...so hard to find stuff was missing or apart. Roof weatherstrip retainer channels, window regulators etc...the weird small stuff that can drive you nuts. The 61 was also manual steering if you can believe that..so I wanted power steering. The 3 parts cars are the white one shown, a 62 300 2 door hardtop and the rustiest (for California) 4 door hardtop 62. I just love that era Mopar 1957 to 61 are probably one of the most beautifully designed cars in my opinion. Since I really love old customs,, I dig the 1961 style, with the canted quad headlights and the fins. Ive had GM bubbletops...1959 Pontiac Bonneville and a 1961 Ventura...but the roofline on the Chrysler and the greenhouse is every bit as futuristic and awesome.

Was at Don Garlits All Mopar Show yesterday and Don picked my little wagon as his Pick of the Show. Great to be picked by the “Swamp Rat” himself over all those big engine cars and hemi’s with My little Flathead 6. Told the crowd “ 6 cylinders rule”. For those who haven’t been to Don’s Drag Racing Museum it’s a treat
here's my ugly 61 Dart Seneca, has a slanted six and 3 speed. my buddy owned the 62 in front. we were on our way to a motorcycle swap meet. this was 1990 or so

Old Mopars are pretty interesting. I think the guys in the styling department might've sometimes had too many lunch time martinis LOL. From stodgy frumpy helmet heads to spaceships. But that's partly what makes them so interesting. Never afraid to go their own way. Seems they always built their cars stout. Strong frames and durable drivetrains. And with the right modifications, all of that can help in building a unique and badass hot rod or custom. I especially like some of the fat fendered CDP business coupes.
