Gotta do some work on a 29 Chevy 4-dr leather back sedan. The roof section behind the rear doors actually folds down. They only made about 300.

Rare does not matter much if nobody wants them.

If there was not a lot of them, they must have all survived. I have two and have regular roofs to replace them.

I give credit to those special coupes in the pictures above; look good and appreciate the work that went into them. Who knows, maybe I will take the queue's from the brown A for a future build.

We only had sports coupes over here - and not many. Ford only sold 600 of them in the 4 years from 1928-1931.
    Far more popular were the phaetons ( 12659 ) roadsters ( 2922 ) Tudors ( 1312 ) and Fordors ( 848 )

The color choice is important if you’re going to retain the ugly roof. The brown one looks ok and of course black. Even Washington blue would look good but red? I think of Elvis’ hair when I see it.

I’m not fond of red in general.

I think that comes from my experience the one time that I attended the NSRA Nats in Columbus back in the (as it was intended and should still be) days of pre 49.

I remember seeing literally hundreds of bright red 32 Fords and lots of other cars finished in resale red.
    A sea of red.
I thought how would you ever find your car :D

    Then there’s the interior.
I’ve seen too many otherwise nice cars with (gag me) bright lipstick red interiors.

I don’t think I could ever be comfortable in something like that.

I think that red car is a good looking car.

I’m not going to agree with you but that’s a personal choice.
I think that most red cars would look better in any other color .

If the red Special Coupe isn't loved, could you all stop kicking it in the nuts and find a feature or more photos of this one? I personally think it looks just fine. Bob

We should accept alternate body styles. Even sport coupes are growing on me. The girls get prettier at closing time.

No, you’re right it’s a nice car or I wouldn’t be considering buying it. I like the red, it’s just the top treatment I’m having trouble adjusting to.

Wasn't that build followed here on the HAMB?

Have the top redone in white for an early sixties vibe.

That’s exactly what I was thinking because if I buy it that’s exactly where it’s going, back to 1962-64.

Sounds like time for the photo shop thread. Change the top and the wheels to something earlier appropriate.

I happen to like the special coupes, but they are not for everyone. I wouldn’t buy anything if my first impression was bad.

In reality it wouldn't be too hard to convert it to a steel back regular coupe since it's mostly a bolt together job. I definitely would not be scared to convert it and could easily do it in a weekend (w/o paint or upholstery of course)....but I've had close to a dozen 28-29 coupes/sport coupes over the years and know them like the back of my hand. Finding a good steel top to use is the hardest part of it all.

I personally like the top treatment. I`d take a sport coupe over a regular one any day of the week.

The brown chopped special coupe is a real smart car . Looks great chopped and stands out a mile from the crowd . the extra effort to make it neat and tidy makes it really stand out . Its the type of car that sets a trend . Im saying that as a standard coupe owner and having recently sold a special coupe that I converted to standard by fabricating the parts then chopping it before sale .. The speacial coupe grows on you because its unusual . The chopped special is extra special and would definitely attract more than a passing glance ..

43660223_2052842288106090_7143760872270200832_n.jpg I have a special coupe. Lots of wood in them. once you peel the top off there is padding and then wood and tin underneath. I personally like them because they are unique. Chopping one makes for a bigger job than a standard. there is a link to my build thread in my signature. there are lots of pictures of the wood being replaced.

Our deal is idling in neutral right now, I think he's fixing some of the stuff we found at the first look so as to take them off of the bargaining table.
