Here is a closer view of the McPhail skull in top hat that Moriarity has in his display bottom center. Currently it is getting a longer shifter arm so it will be staring out the windshield on my '48 Packard he**** instead of being hidden between the seats.

I am going to get these 2 next week. Top hat wolf for the '60 Pheonix and the creeper skull is another for the Packard he**** but that one will be mounted to the back bumper in the corner basicly to hide a hole that one time had a spotlight mounted there. Think it would look good with a skull climbing out on that type of car and you won't really notice it until up close what it is.

Gl*** ball from a garage sale, already had the screw mount. Top of a bed post or something.

I'm not sure of the age of this beautifully simple, maroon mushroom knob but it's older. I found it in a coffee can that was filled with hardware some 20-ish years ago. It was wrapped in paper, protecting it from the grimy nuts and bolts. Someone must've liked it enough to hide it away.

Originally, I was planning on a white or black ball knob or even a black mushroom for my coupe but once I screwed it on (it was even the correct thread size), I figured I could make subtle changes to the car's plan to make it fit in aesthetically.

I have had this old former doorknob forever, since it came with the 1929 Ford cabriolet in 1958-59. Iirc, it came in a box of miscellany when my uncle brought the car back to the original owner, my dad. It is a fairly soft stone that I sanded with successively finer grits and finally gave it a decent polish. Colors match the interior pretty well.

The shift knob for our 51 pickup started as an old gl*** doorknob I found in the barn.

HPIM2994.JPG Here's a bunch from the pit at Pacific Steel when we would meet on Sat. morning back when you could still go salvage.
The ****erscotch colored round bakelite are 5/16'' NF in br*** inserts, the tapered are bored 5/16'', and came from s****ped movie projectors from a theater downtown.
The 5 in a group are from our Western Auto when they went out of business.
Brent, the red ones I have came from fork lifts, but have 3/8'' studs instead of threads.
    The red, white, & black are Hurst, and the rest are the mandatory door knobs ... HPIM2980.JPG HPIM2982.JPG HPIM2983.JPG HPIM2984.JPG HPIM2989.JPG HPIM2991.JPG HPIM2985.JPG HPIM2986.JPG HPIM2993.JPG

I thought I had a shift knob problem until I saw other H.A.M.B.’ers post. Thanks again for helping me feel normal again. Here are the ones that I have sitting around my office.

One of @Saxman shift knobs.....makes the HAMB knobs and does great work. And that's more times than I care to use "knobs" in a sentence.;)

I ran across this one today. When I was young, I took an Adult Ed. cl*** at the local trade school to run a lathe and this was one of my projects. It's not much but it sparked an interest in machine work. A few years later, I got laid off from my factory job and took the 1 year machine shop course at the same trade school. I've been using these skills ever since and have a small lathe and mill in my home shop.

So might be a good time to bring this up...

I have several old ceramic/porcelain? door knobs with br*** inserts in them.

I've several similar, think mine might be porcelain or? But don't think gl***. Mine have br*** inserts inside, what method did you use to bore/tap? i think the largest I could go in the br*** would be 3/8ths.
