Can you help me out? Do you know anything about the Art Fridays and how this might tie in to us putting together a calendar? I too am a photographer and I am interested in getting this project off the ground Can you help? I was thinking we could have people summit work by a specific dead line and let the members of the HAMB vote on what images should be in the calendar. Does any one want to get on board?

    Thanks

  3. HRG,

You're new & probably don't know we already do a HAMB calendar (most years anyway).

Imaged are suBmitted, some are selected, we Pay Pal Ryan, a gang of Gay Michigan Bitches ships 'em out, etc....

Maybe it's time for a "Ladies of the HAMB" edition? Maybe not?

You're welcome to use my '38 as a prop. ;)

Okay...So they already make a HAMB calender featuring photography...how about a calender featuring the paintings, digital renderings, traditional drawing and colored pencil renderings, pinstriping...(and anything else I left out) that are submitted for the Friday Art Show?...I think that would be cool.

    Yes, No, Maybe???

I was thinking about bringing back the classics like Vargas. I would like bring back the
Cheesecake type photography. I think to much of the class has been replaced by ass.
I would like to see Classic Cars and Classy Girls. I am not looking to replace the current calendar by any means I just would like to know if there is room for this type of photography and I wonder if there might be enough interest. I am always looking for props (cars) Classics only please no Billet cars and classy Models.
Here is a sample of my last calendar. Let me know what you think.

It takes quite a bit of advance planning, up front printing cost, collection of monies, and shipping out of calendars. There is a huge group of people already invested in doing one who's profits benefit the HAMB. Not sure if there is ANOTHER group on here that is willing to put in the same effort to produce a SECOND calendar.

Why don't you submit some of the types of photos you have in mind to Chad for possible submission in the 4th annual HAMB calendar??

i say just do it, but it will have to be "your" project. after the last post about pinup art, i PMed Ryan about the idea, and didn't get any response, so i take that as a "hell no". you can ask for submissions here, and talk about it here, as long as you don't try to brand it as being affiliated with the HAMB, which can have advantages as well for you, you can solicit contributers from the other boards, and sell them wherever you please. but not being connected to the hamb, don't expect a lot of freebies, you may have to pay for some artwork, and foot the printing bill, but i believe there are a lot of people who would buy such a calander.

yes, you're right. If anything, it should be done at the same time as the other calendar. I think an ART OF THE HAMB calendar would be great! Showcase the 12 (or more) best artworks of the year, as voted by HAMBers.

I've been at companies that print two different calendars, is it much trouble for the current calendar committee to submit two designs, with the same company, deadlines, etc. and have them both printed up?

I just gotta say, as a big fan of classy pinup/cheesecake, I think what makes them so classic and eternal is the fact that they are paintings/drawings etc. They are obviously "adaptations" of photographs used for reference, but by painting or rendering it anew, the artist achieved a bit more surreal and imaginative picture/setting.pose/expression/scenario, etc. that a photgraph can't pull off.
I think it would be awesome to use your photos as references for a traditional pinup calendar posed in and around HAMBers cars ... but maybe that's just me. Call me old fashioned.

I see it as twice as much work for everyone involved. 24 pages to design, 24 pages to proof, twice as much printing costs, twice as long packaging time, etc.

It takes over a dozen HAMB guys a FULL day just to mail out the 500 HAMB calendars. Can you imagine trying to keep it straight how many of each of the TWO calendars everyone wants.

PLUS , is the profits from #2 calendar going to the HAMB or somewhere else. The GMB shipping department is only for HAMB "products".:D

I think one or two pinup style, w/cars, photos in the next HAMB calendar would be fine but I might be given a tough time by the bosses hanging a 100% pinup calendar at work. They understand the car thing but the other girls here at work might be offended by "cheesecake" and I know the bosses would side with them.

I've always welcomed pin up style contributions to the calendar, but I rarely get any submissions. If you were to submit some for this year, they would have to include a HAMBer's car or at the very least a HAMB appropriate car.

As always, just submitting doesn't mean you're automatically in. I pick the 14 or so images because they speak to me... portray a certain passion that we all feel about hot rods and customs.

I've kicked around the art idea, but most of the time the artwork looses something in the conversion to b/w. Photos generally become more dramatic in b/w.
