    Hello fellow HAMBrs,

I am trying to replace the traditional rope crankshaft seal without much luck on a 1962 Buick Special with the 3.2 V6. Is there anyone out there that has replaced this with one of the silicone rubber seals, rather than the rope seal or has tips for getting a new rope seal back in? A part number is helpful too if you have one.

    Thank you!

They sell a tool for putting rope back in, may have to drop the crank some.

The key is finding the same diameter. If your crank currently has the crosshatching design in it, which most rope seals have, that needs to be machined out for the seal type you want to put in which need a smooth surface to ride on. A correctly installed rope and good PCV system will do wonders.
