I’m needing some advice on what a good set up for a gas pedal and linkage. I want something safe and reliable. Car originally had a rod running through the firewall but that seems a little too sketchy for me. Want are some good proven ideas? I am using 4 strombergs on a 331 hemi. The pictures will let you know what I am dealing with. The long slot in the firewall is where the oil rod cam through.
Actually I'd rather have a rod than a cable. If the rod's not attaching outside the firewall like an original s**** pedal, what's wrong with it attaching inside? There are a few different makers of new s**** style pedals, and I think most of them have adjustable arms so you can angle it to fit. Or you can find an original Ford pedal from the 20's to the late 30's and modify it to fit your application.
I have a rod running thru the firewall to modified Ford s**** pedals on both my 28 and 32 Fords. They work good, are cheap, and definately tradtional.
What I worry about the rod is having it get pinched up against the firewall when the engine torques over. Is this even a concern?
Well, you have to give it some clearance. But much do you think your engine is going to rotate? Hopefully not much. If its moving a lot, you're gonna have more issues than just throttle rod clearance....radiator hoses, fuel line, exhaust....
You guys have convinced me. I spent today building a mount for a s**** type pedal. Will use a .250 rod through the firewall to the carbs. I think this will work well. Thanks
If you want to use a s**** pedal the '35-'36 car and '35 - '39 trucks used a longer s****, but are a bunch cheaper....
