Hi all. I got hold of one of those typical y shaped alternator brackets at take gm style alternators. I have the wide pulley and it appears that the belt I have is not long enough. It is an old belt, so only using it as a reference. Should the standard belt fit? As this is the wide belt, alternative sizes don’t seem commonly available. Does anyone have any experience with the wide belt block and these brackets.
Those belts are sold as "B" belts. They come in different lengths, like B56, etc. They are measured at the outside of the belt. https://www.vbelts4less.com/standard-b-series-v-belt
I am in a rural community and there are two farm supply stores in town that have a good supply of those wide belts. They are used on all sorts of farm equipment like tractors and combines.
Thanks guys. Over here in Australia, looks like I found a place based on your advice. They are also far cheaper than any belt from an auto parts shop. Hopefully head down there tomorrow.
