My Dads boss got this stuck .454 for $50.00l. We brought it home today to see how it would fit. It is now the new mock up motor. Yes the Bugs getting a big block... unless I win the raffle engine anyway...:D

Think that'll be fast enough? Power to weight ratio is awesome!

If some is good, more is better, and too much ought to be just right.

OT and not quite a hamb machine but damn, that is going to a be a scary ride.

    1600lb car w big block.

Curious to see how it works out.

Maybe too much power to weight ratio???

  10. won't really be too much of a problem. Had a big block in a Vega back in the day and it really wasn't that scary. Speed wasn't an issue...tires never stopped spinning. Way to much torque to be of any real use. That aside, your work and fabrication are spot on, and it should be a nice piece when it's done.

  11. Bullshit.

This is what its all about.

We've been through this. This car is not a VW, it's a gasser, just like an Anglia or a Toplino.

why is a straight axle better than the porsche designed torsion front end?

It's lighter, and the spring rate is more easily adjustable to maximize weight transfer. Plus, getting gasser altitude from the torsion bars would be a trick, not to mention they wouldn't really care for the weight of a big block on them.

Huh? You're kidding right?

If it's a serious question... well we're building a font engined V8 altered Bug on a full frame. The VW front end isn't only completely wrong for the theme but also WAY too weak for the job it needs to do, no matter who designed it.

    Good nough?

  21. The old saying "If we have to explain it to you, you just won't understand"
    fits so well here.

  22. I don't care what anybody thinks, I like VW's. I've only ever had one Beetle, a stock 74 Super back in '83, but some of the ones I've seen lately I'd have in a minute. I dig the old ones most. Keep up the good work. :)

I had no doubt that it would fit. We have a cat locally that has a BBC in an early Honda Civic (like 70-74 vintage) that is crazy. It has the tiny factory wheels (12") and I've seen it run mid 11s.

Looks very interesting. Got room for a radiator in there? I'm curious about what radiator you will use and how you will set it up.

Just how many RPM's you gonna turn that Beetle's big block???

I can't wait to see the progress... :)

No room for the rad in the front. It'll go in the engine compartment, or the old engine compartment I guess. There's a BIG empty space back there! :D

We're thinking a big rad with a shrouded high cfm fan, some ducting from underneath and a one of those kits that raises the decklid out a couple of inches. I hope that'll do it anyway. When we get that far I'll be asking some questions of those who have put them in the back before. Did you see that Littleman?

for that matter, mount it where the back seat used to go and you will have a way better heater than v.w. ever dreamed of.

duct work from behind the doors. solid shrouding, the only hard part would be getting water in it.
    room for a fuel cell,too.
    and a battery,too.
and a couple of dead whores,if you slice 'em right.

looks like the littleist giant to me.

porsche is for handling corners. Don't need that on a trailered straight-line single-purpose race car.

That thing will be hell on wheels. As for the radiator, mount it on an angle, punch some louvers in the decklid, and call it a day. Its too bad you couldnt fit a roots on that engine. Not that it needs it or anything...

Im glad to see an update on here, your making really good progress.
