We're trying to figure out which show to hit this weekend, Lincoln is a little over an hour drive to Americruise. Salina KS is a 3-4 hour drive for us and not sure what to expect when we get there. We won't be spending the night so it's a lot of drivin for us to go to Salina but Americruise was a little disappointing a few years ago according to those who went. This will be it's first year back so it may be different. Tell me what you guys think about the Salina show compared to Americruise and help me make a decision. Thanks.

Americuise is for street rods...Salina is for Lead sleds...Americruise is for billet...Salina is for white-walls, fender skirts and hubcaps...Americruise is for Primedia's benefit...Salina is gr*** roots...

I'll be at Salina if that's of any import...

Reason Americruise was a bust last time imo was because they had it there for about 3 years straight. And even though Lincoln is only a couple hrs drive for me I am still going to Salina.

What kind of turnout is in Salina? How many cars typically?

About 400-700 I'd say (my registration number is 359...got it about a month ago) sleds, trad rods, new concept kustoms, chopped sleds, fender skirted beauties. Gearge Barris, Paul LeMat, famous names in kustom biz...

Americruise: 1500-2500 cars of all kinds and maybe even some 4 x 4's.

There's plenty of motel rooms in Salina (average about $75 a nite...some cheaper, some more expensive), nice park with shade trees, cruising lane, swap meet, vendors of all things "sled", plenty of restaurants...small town atmosphere...crossroads of America...almost at the center of the US.

Americruise is on blak asphalt at the Lincoln fairgrounds...Huskers play there at the University...Speedway is there...Lincoln is bigger than Salina...Omaha is 50 miles (or less away), it's bigger than Lincoln and probably will be a suburb of Lincoln one day. SAC Museum is there, as is SAC AFB..

KKOA awards/Salina Choices...777 award w/$1000 cash...Jack of Diamonds pick-Koolest rat rod or trad ol' skool heap( their words not mine) along with $500.00 cash...NCC award plus $500.00 cash, Most Spectacular award plus $500.00 cash, Drag racing champ (old Salina airport Friday nite),run what ya brung-$500.00 cash, plus more awards...all at Salina.

    Americruise- wall plaks?, Coddington?

    Your choice...

We went to Salina last year and it ROCKED !!! Had a great time and it attracts some very cool cars. They have it in a really nice park with lots of shade and theres a lot goin on at the host motel in the evenings. They had some excellent rock-a-billy bands in the park and to top it off Paul Galaxie and the Galactics were in the crowd and got up and did a set ( very cool )
All that being said I'm sorry to say were going to Americruise. I know sounds stupid but it's close, we drive back and forth from Omaha ( no motel cost ) and it's cheap. After being at Austin, Des Moines GG, Lawrence Ks., and Live Fast,I'm trying to conserve a little. Still planning on HAMB drags,Grease-a-rama in KC and maybe the Hunnert.
It was atough choice but it's what were doin bout 5 or 6 of us Roadbuner's will be there, so if you're coming find us and say high. We'll be the one's with-out billet. Gary

Personally, I think Salina is a lot more personable...you're just one more number at Americruise...but...can't say that I blame you a bit HRH...save your bux for Kansas City GG's...I'll be there,...and the Grease-a-rama too...maybe introduce yourself...

Damn fellas, I'm still on the fence. I think my wife is going with me and financially, Americruise makes the most sense. But, even thinkin of drivin something "new" and heading to Salina to look around but that doesn't make much sense either. I don't know...

As for KC GG and Greaserama, I think we're skipping GG and just heading to the Greaserama this year. GG KC is sooooo hot w/ no shade and a lot of the same cars as DesMoines and the usual expensive argument. Hope to see both of you guys there at Greaserama, never been but sounds cool.

I'm definetly out at KC goodguys. I can't believe they moved it back to labor day weekend. It'll be a lobster fest. I've never had that great of time there anyway, cept for the kick-off party thur's nite. Greaserama's pretty cool, I see they have moved it to a new venue this year. I think were gonna do a down and back on Saturday. Try and leave early AM and drive back Sat. nite. Hope to catch up with both of ya's somewhere. Gary

I'll be joining Hot-Rod Roadster at Americruise, but also have to add that KKOA at Salina was great last year. I'm interested to see how Americruise turns out this year. There are some different events they've added and I really hope it all goes well with a big turn-out. Can't wait for the tire smokin' on "O" Street!

I am going to Americruise- partly just because we have had a great time with the Saturday night cruise scene. Ths whole town turns out and lines O street. We may try to join some friends in Salina on Sunday. It is on our way home (almost). True that Americruise attracts a lot of junk, but we have had a pretty good time in past years. The last year it was there was a bit lame. The Speedway tour is worth doing for the history of anything that that had a motor and raced back in the day.
