got this old girl Monday. Has an FE but haven't had it running; have a Y-block 292 to go in just in case.
Replace a lot of rust damage and maybe swap in the 292. Got a pair of nicer bumpers and a good straight grille to swap out. Big simple old car.
Mild rant; seller didn't tell me the driveshaft was missing. I have one from the sedan I just s****ped, but not certain the length is the same or the splines are the same (2sp vs 3sp automatic transmission). Nothing I can't work around.
Removed the "park by braille" front bumper and grille, got to do some patching on the core support before I can put the good parts on. Flipped the rear shackles back under the hangers to get rid of the tail dragger stance. Damn FE is stuck tight. Ordered new rocker panels. Had a pretty productive weekend.
My dad had a 60 Ford station wagon, 292 fordomatic. I hated that car. Nothing else resembles a 60 Galaxie. I am glad you like it, good luck with getting her going.
First 60 I recall seeing was the Starliner I bought. They were scarce then and they aren't making any new ones, as my dad put it!
I don't think it is an air line. I've seen the same deal on a 60 Cruise-O-Matic from a T-Bird. It appears to go to the transmission, but I don't know what it is for. Maybe tomorrow I'll look at that trans and see if I can figure it out.
I saw a black '60 Galaxie box top at an auction once and I wanted it bad, but they weren't running that car through the auction that day. I tried and tried, but they wouldn't sell it that day, and I never saw it again. I hope you can get this one going and fixed up, I love their space-age weirdness.
The shackles are supposed to be above the hangers as OEM. But what happens is somebody flips them down to jack the rear up, the springs try to sag back to level and almost make it, then when you put them back right the rear is lowered.... So you only have only have to lower the front...
