PayPal makes its money selling the insurance, the three %. It offers the free service for “ Friends and Family”! Don’t have to talk about family, easy. But if you make friends with the buyer, you are buying according to the rules! It don’t say how GOOD of friend! But then you take the chance, your choice! No foul! It’s just like not buying insurance on your house....saves you money.....until you need it! Bones
I'll just address one point in all this. Paypal chooses to offer the F&F plan for free payments, I see nothing unethical on taking them up on their offer.
Just offer a 3% surcharge if the customer wants protection. Ebay Scams are worse [I've been a victim to this]
Hey, Gary; Why not add in the 3.5% to the normal cost for PP, then offer that discount if folks want to use f&f, check, or even cash? Years ago, I bought some really neat(now unavailable) Rust Convertor + some other things, from a fellow(Terry Cohen, maybe?), & he offered about 6 different ways to pay. Each had a different cost ***ociated w/it. I kinda got miffed, until he explained the costs of each, & that he was offering them for the customers' convenience, so they could chose what was best for them, not him. I did business w/him happily after that, my only ***** was 1st, the materials he used became totally unavailable due to the1st Gulf war, 2nd, unhappily, he p***ed on. None of which was his fault. I respected him more after he explained the situation - none of which I knew at the time. & he did his formulas primarily thru taste! I'm not anywhere even remotely that good! Marcus...
Gary, I'm with nrgwizard. Add 3.5% to the cost of the item. Then offer a discount for cash, pp f&f, and/or check. Few buyers ever complain about a discount but they'll sure raise a stink about extra charges.
I've been doing this for over 25 years now... In that time, I've probably handled well over 1000 deals with users that have gone wrong in one way or another. I'd guess I've had less than 5 deals in that time that were paid using PayPal standard (not friends and family) that ended poorly. I'd guess that over 99% of all deals done with PayPal standard have been resolved. Using PayPal and paying the transaction fees is BY FAR the safest way to complete a transaction online. Far safer than mailing check, safer than paying by credit card, safer than paying by a cash app, and certainly safer than paying by friends and family. If you know the guy personally, are confident in him, and can live with the repercussions if something goes wrong, use friends and family. Otherwise, stay away from it at all costs. It is not different than wrapping cash in an envelope and sending it through USPS.
Rich B is correct. I use a card only so I get hit with the fee. In between paypal and a card, I have double protection.
the best way to handle this is to pay by the standard paypal for purchases. then send a separate paypal by friends and family for the fees. that way the seller gets his total amount and the buyer gets the protection. as for gary, he gave me an excellent price on a winters quickchange and took my personal check for payment. had i needed to, i would have sent him the paypal as friends and family.
Well, honesty has no gray areas. So, bending the PayPal rules for gain in a transaction is not fair , not honest and actually scamming PayPal. Nobody can be 99.9% and say there honest . Besides, expecting another person to waive their right to protection is not the right thing to do. Sorry but anyone who thinks it is right , is wrong. You wouldn’t want to be scammed in your business or daily life,so do not do that to others. Throw mud at me at all you want, your still wrong.
Time for an honesty check. Lets see a show of hands, of those, that have ever put money into one of these, and have taken more than 1 newspaper ?
Agreed !!! Honesty is like pregnancy, you either are or you are not. Not saying everyone gets it right all of the time, but honesty is surely something a worthwhile person strives for every day.
I buy things all the time using PayPal which is linked to my credit card. The few times I've had trouble I was glad I did since it gives me double protection. A new customer doesn't know if a seller is honest or not and I'm su****ious if someone says PayPal accepted as friend or family since I don't know them. If my profit margin was that close (3%), I'd seriously look at my pricing system. My Dad (rip) worked at a small grocery store during the depression when he was a kid. He asked owner about prices. Owner said "what we lose on apples we make up on the peaches". Sent from my SM-S205DL using Tapatalk
Like in my last post if the seller communicates to the buyer he is unwilling to pay the fees then the buyer has to make a choice on whether he wants it bad enough to pay the fees himself,if not he walks away if he does he adds the fee to the purchase price and gets his item, anyone that feels the seller should have to accept a lower price to pay for a service the buyer demands is delusional .The statement made earlier about cash vs credit prices not being allowed is inaccurate gas stations do it all the time and the price on the sign is usually cash because it is lower but not always specified. The examples given about businesses is fine but there are also businesses that don't accept credit cards completely within their rights.
Why would someone need more than one newspaper? If you bought one, and then stole a second one, are you going to read them both?
A guy at work took two on a regular basis. So him and his wife didn’t fight over the crossword puzzle. Cheap *******...used the same paper lunch bag every day also.
One of my cow-orkers (oops, co-workers) subscribes to the newspaper and makes photocopies of the crossword for those of us who want to solve our own copy. Fair use? Honest or Dishonest? Grey?
Dorian Gray? Was a great film, if you're into Semi-fine art film , Like 'King of Hearts' or 'Sunset Boulevard'
