Wouldn’t one assume that the scammer with at least that much pc skills and time would not just get a job in IT security and make a lot more money and have real benefits? Or maybe he might have been fired from a job like that[emoji848] Anyways, thanks for your time spent Ryan. Randy Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Hi Guys: I missed this post, and embarrassingly, fell for it Monday over at The Barn- A "forum member" contacts you via pm from your "Wanted" post. They claim to know someone who has the part you are looking (in my case, late merc flathead oil pickup), and give you an email to contact. I was provided with the email "Partworld82@gmail.com". You reach out, and the scammer says "Yes, I have the part"- and sends you a picture that they scrape off the internet (Ebay in my case, which I found out after some research). They ask for Paypal, but request "Friends and Family" to save on the fees, but which also leaves you helpless to dispute if you transfer directly from your bank account. You (me...) have now been officially screwed. Since this incident, I have had two others try the same scam from my want add over on The Barn. Look out for "Members" that just joined. I had my guard down, I have never had a problem buying or selling here or on The Ford Barn. I hope this helps the next guy. Dave
In this day and age, NEVER buy anything from anyone you don't know personally with friends and family PayPal... ALWAYS, pay the fees and get the protection. It's worth it in the long run ten times over. There is no work around. To send a pm or even view the wanted section on any of my sites, you now have to have at least 10 posts and be a member for a certain amount of time.
At night before turning off the lights, people check the closet for the boogey man. The boogey man checks the closet for Ryan.
not all "hey my buddy has one of those" replies are bogus. I was looking for a hard to find part and tried the wanted ads, and got exactly that. turns out the guy sells 49 - 54 parts and I kinda knew who he was from swaps, and he's local to me.... pretty sure the HAMB guy that replied to my ad was an established member here. that would probably be the key difference.
I'm I correct that this policy will stop the majority of scammers joining just to send Private Messages to members looking for parts ( wanted ). but it still doesn't stop the post about male enhancement drugs or other of the wall scams? HRP
That’s why Ryan is the best CEO. Actually cares about his flock not just his own interests. Talk about rare .
Thank you Ryan, I hate scammers. But I check the wanted section from time to time because I have a friend that has the biggest collection of parts I have seen and I have been messing with cars for 50 years. My friend is 75 and dose not use a computer so if I see some one looking for some thing Lowell has I pass along his phone number. This guy has a huge pile of 32-48 ford parts and a lot of them are NOS. I posted a thread on this guy awhile back.
I would like to give the scammers worms, watch them drag there ass across the carpet like a mangy dog !! We got calls up here about revenue Canada and your sin number ( same as IRS and Social security number) Anyways you get the call they say there is an arrest warrant out for you and your sin has been compromised and to press 1 to talk to an operator. Well most of the time I just hang up but about a month ago I pressed one and told the guy on the other end of the phone that I would be masterbating loudly and violently to the conversation, and if he was ok with that we could continue. I no longer get any phone calls from that particular group of scammers!! Thank you Ryan and the hamb for all you do, and yes it’s funny when you can take a little back from these shit sacks.
LMAO! I just tell them to come by and I'll pay it in cash. Odd, they've never shown up yet. But I like your reply better
Some of you guys really kill me “COOL” Unfortunately when I tried to copy and paste the original quote my microwave started going crazy, so I had to take a screen shot
