That'll be one helluva save! Good on ya! That poor Merc will be glad to get back in it's comfort zone.

The front end mounting of the straight axle was just scary.. it looked like Stevie Wonder welded it in and Ray Charles ground the welds up for him.. lol....

(no offence to stevie wonder or the great Ray Charles)

With a merc for me it is kinda a have to. If I found one that was completely original untouched or a nicely restored one I wouldn't do it. But once it has been molested chop away! I do think most people take too much off, which then intern doing a nice conservative chop that smooths the lines wouldn't be cookie cutter in my opinion.

  11. Probably wasn't surface rust when applied but filler will absorb water so once there is a spot where water can get to it everything underneath will rust as it will just keep sucking in water until it is saturated.

Nice work. I have had both a chopped version and now a stock 51' Mercury, I like seeing both. I'm just not seeing a chopped Merc in my future. No matter which way you go? The Mercury has great lines. My $0.02

Just a little progress tonight.. I rounded the rear corner of the quarter window. I was debating whether or not to leave it in a point at the rear corner, but after much thought i will round all the corners out on the old girl . 20201210_191217.jpg 20201210_194615.jpg
